About the Role
We’re looking for a Field Engineer who will provide technical, administrative, and project coordination support for assigned construction projects within the Builders sector. Working closely with Project Managers, Superintendents, subcontractors, design partners, and field personnel, this role supports project planning, scheduling, cost management, document control, procurement, field coordination, and closeout activities.
The Field Engineer serves as a key connection between project management and field operations, helping ensure project information is accurate, current, organized, and communicated to the appropriate stakeholders. The role may be assigned responsibility for defined project components, subcontractors, work packages, or scopes of work under the direction of project leadership.
This position provides an opportunity to develop a strong foundation in construction operations, project management, and field leadership. Success requires strong organization, technical curiosity, attention to detail, communication, accountability, and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
Core Responsibilities
Project Planning and Field Coordination
- Assist Project Managers and Superintendents with planning and coordinating daily and upcoming project activities.
- Support the development, updating, and maintenance of project schedules, lookahead schedules, procurement schedules, and subcontractor detail schedules.
- Monitor schedule-related action items and communicate potential delays, constraints, or coordination concerns to project leadership.
- Assist with drawing coordination, document flow, and communication between project management and field operations.
- Monitor material and equipment procurement to help ensure deliveries align with project sequencing and schedule requirements.
- Support coordination of site logistics, access requirements, inspections, deliveries, and work-area readiness.
- Participate in project meetings, subcontractor coordination meetings, planning sessions, and field walks as assigned.
- Follow up on assigned project action items and communicate progress, concerns, and unresolved needs to project leadership.
Subcontractor, Procurement, and Cost Support
- Collaborate with Project Managers on purchasing, procurement, subcontractor coordination, scope review, and cost management activities.
- Assist with preparing subcontractor and supplier bid packages, scope sheets, takeoffs, and pricing requests.
- Solicit and organize pricing from subcontractors, vendors, and suppliers as directed.
- Perform quantity and scope takeoffs to support estimating, procurement, change management, and cost evaluation.
- Assist with reviewing proposals for scope coverage, exclusions, clarifications, qualifications, and potential gaps.
- Support subcontract preparation, administration, compliance tracking, and communication for assigned subcontractors or scopes.
- Assist with tracking commitments, purchase orders, invoices, allowances, and project cost information.
- Prepare and organize supporting documentation for potential change events, owner change orders, and subcontractor change requests.
- Maintain clear records of pricing, scope decisions, approvals, and related project correspondence.
Document Control, Submittals, and RFIs
- Prepare, review, distribute, and track submittals in accordance with project requirements and established workflows.
- Perform an initial review of submittals for completeness and general alignment with project drawings, specifications, and scope requirements before routing for formal review.
- Assist with preparing, submitting, tracking, and closing Requests for Information.
- Maintain current drawings, specifications, addenda, bulletins, sketches, submittals, RFIs, and other construction documents.
- Help ensure current project information is available to field teams, subcontractors, and appropriate stakeholders.
- Support coordination of design clarifications, field questions, and document revisions with project leadership.
- Maintain accurate and organized records within Procore and other company project management systems.
- Serve as a project resource for document management applications, workflows, and technology platforms.
- Identify discrepancies between drawings, specifications, submittals, and field conditions and promptly communicate concerns to project leadership.
Field Reporting, Quality, and Safety Support
- Maintain a visible presence in the field to develop an understanding of project progress, sequencing, site conditions, and construction activities.
- Assist with documenting daily work activities, manpower, progress photographs, deliveries, inspections, delays, and significant field conditions.
- Monitor assigned scopes and subcontractor activities for general alignment with project drawings, specifications, approved submittals, and schedule expectations.
- Communicate visible quality concerns, incomplete work, coordination conflicts, or potential deficiencies to the Superintendent or Project Manager.
- Assist with maintaining quality control documentation, inspection records, deficiency tracking, and corrective action follow-up.
- Support punch list development, tracking, verification, and completion.

- Assist with preparing meeting agendas, meeting minutes, reports, logs, presentations, and project status updates.
- Maintain assigned project trackers, including submittal logs, RFI logs, procurement logs, change management logs, inspection records, and action-item lists.
- Support timely communication between project leadership, subcontractors, design partners, vendors, and internal departments.
- Organize project correspondence and supporting documentation so decisions, commitments, and outstanding items remain visible and traceable.
- Escalate unresolved issues, missing information, delayed responses, and potential project impacts to the appropriate project leader.
Project Closeout and Professional Development
- Support project closeout planning throughout the project rather than waiting until the completion phase.
- Assist with collecting, reviewing, organizing, and submitting operations and maintenance manuals, warranties, as-built documents, attic stock records, training materials, and turnover documentation.
