Yard Jockey: Material Handler

Position Overview:
The role of the Yard Jockey-Material Handler is to use specialized equipment (telescopic reach lift, forklift, jockey trucks) to unload, load, and transport steel components throughout our fabrication facility for the steel fabrication and erection processes. The Yard Jockey-Material Handler is responsible for ensuring equipment maintenance and associated safety standards, yard maintenance, organizing material both unfabricated and fabricated, while checking in or out shipped and received loads of material and fabricated steel.
The ideal candidate will have 3 to 5 years of documented experience in structural steel material handling including but not limited to checking in and out (load lists/BOL), jockey truck operations, telescopic reach lift operations, general forklift operations, overhead crane rigging & operations. Additionally, in this role you will assist with general material handling throughout various production phases. This position is being offered to local candidates within a 25-mile radius. Per Diem and relocation are not being offered. Entry level candidates will not be considered for this position.
Responsibilities:
- Maintaining a safe work environment for self and team members.
- Ability to read and verify material load lists.
- Ability to safely operate industrial equipment (Jockey, telescopic reach, fork, & overhead cranes).
- Organizes workflow in terms of priority, material, and load times.
- Organizes and inventories material in the yard as required by General Foreman.
- Identifying and selecting proper materials for fabrication or shipping.
- Performs a pre-use inspection of the machinery, equipment and components.
- Performs basic troubleshooting and preventive maintenance (lubrication, etc.).
- Ability to communicate in both verbal and written forms.
- Adherence to all work safety policies, procedures and governing requirements.
Requirements:
- Ideal candidates will have a minimum of 3 - 5 years documented experience as a Structural Steel Yard Jockey-Material Handler.
- Ideal candidates will have commercial driving experience.
- Ideal candidates must have a clean driving record.
- Proven ability to use & troubleshoot equipment, read and interpret load lists.
- Must be committed to organizational safety.
- Must have the ability to work independently as well as a team structure.
- Ability to work year-round in extreme temperature variations.
- Must have reliable transportation and live within a 25-mile radius.
- Candidates are required to successfully pass pre-employment screenings including MVR, background check, physical examination, and substance abuse screenings.
