Our client is an established software company that helps mid-market manufacturers and distributors run their operations. Its configurable platform covers warehouse management, manufacturing execution, and transportation, giving companies a practical alternative to large-scale tier 1 systems. The business has a long track record of successful implementations and a delivery team that spans several countries, and North America is now its fastest-growing region, with some of its largest multi-site programs currently underway.
As Senior Solution Architect, you will own the design of North American implementations. You will spend time with clients in their plants and warehouses, learn how their operations actually work, write the business requirements specification that the system is built from, and confirm the finished configuration matches what was agreed. You’ll report to the regional Head of Delivery and follow a shared global design standard, so your specifications need to be clear enough for a configuration team in another time zone to build from without you in the room.
This role focuses on new implementations and larger scope changes. Smaller changes, enhancements, and day-to-day support are handled by other members of the team, though you’ll pitch in on first-line support as part of the wider delivery group.
What you will do:
- Lead on-site discovery with clients, including floor walks, process reviews, and workshops, to understand how each operation runs
- Write detailed requirements specifications that are buildable and clear about what is in scope and what is not
- Design solutions using standard templates as a starting point, and decide what to configure, what the client should change in their own process, and what should not be built
- Present designs to clients and to internal leadership for approval before any configuration begins
- Review completed builds against the specification before clients see them, and resolve gaps directly with the build team
- Train client super users, run user acceptance testing, and manage the resulting adjustments
- Be on site for go-live and stay until the client is running live production on the system
- Transition clients cleanly to support with open items documented, escalation paths agreed, and the support team briefed
- Coach US-based business systems colleagues on design method as they grow into more design work
How success is measured:
- How often builds pass internal review and client testing without needing rework
- How closely actual design effort tracks the original estimate
- How many issues are caught internally before the client ever sees the build
Requirements
Required:
- 5+ years designing and implementing operational software in manufacturing, warehouse, or distribution settings, with personal ownership of requirements and design (not only supporting someone else’s design)
- Proven history of writing functional specifications or requirements that others have built from successfully
- Experience working directly with plant and operations leaders, including leading workshops and handling difficult scope discussions
- Full lifecycle implementation experience through go-live, including design, validation, training, UAT, and on-site cutover
- Comfortable working with a build team in a different country and time zone
- Able to step straight into full design responsibility without a long ramp-up
- Based in the US and able to travel regularly to client sites across North America
- Flexibility to occasionally start early (around 7:00 AM ET) to overlap with international colleagues
Preferred:
- Degree in industrial engineering, information systems, or a related field
- Mid-market ERP experience (SYSPRO, Acumatica, or similar) and an understanding of how shop-floor data moves in and out of ERP
- Experience with low-code or configurable platforms rather than custom development
- Hands-on work with barcode scanning, RFID, scale integration, or other shop-floor data capture
- Experience mentoring junior team members on design approach
