Job Summary
Keeping production on schedule starts with a clear view of customer demand, material availability, and the work moving across the shop floor. As an Associate Planner with Leonardo DRS Land Electronics, you will help translate incoming orders into accurate planning data, assess lead times and schedule impacts, and keep manufacturing orders visible as priorities change. You will work across planning, purchasing, and manufacturing to flag shortages and build-plan risks early, so teams can act before schedules slip. This is a hands-on opportunity to build planning expertise while taking ownership of the details that keep execution moving.
Essential Functions
- Review incoming contract details including part numbers, quantities, and requested delivery dates against quoted lead times to support accurate order planning.
- Enter approved independent demand as sales forecast demand in the Manage Master Production Schedules module and set up inventory abbreviations for new project numbers and approved standard material pricing in ERP.
- Analyze lead times, component availability, and proposed schedule changes using ERP tools and Kinaxis simulation; surface potential impacts for planning decisions.
- Generate requests for proposed Internal Operating Plan (IOP) ship-by dates, enter approved IOP dates in ERP upon authorization, and maintain new-order summary logs for team visibility.
- Assist with creating and tracking manufacturing orders (MOs) for customer returns, engineering changes, and standard production releases.
- Monitor daily MO aging and shop-floor build-plan progress, flag bottlenecks and orders at risk of missing schedule dates and track critical component shortages affecting the master production schedule.
- Support material movement by coordinating with internal teams and processing Return-to-Vendor (RTV) documentation.
Required Qualifications
- Associate’s degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience, with emphasis on supply chain, business, operations, or a related field.
- Hands-on experience in a manufacturing or production environment.
- Working knowledge of ERP/MRP systems and database navigation.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, including basic formulas and PivotTables, as well as PowerPoint, Word, and SharePoint.
- Exceptional attention to detail and demonstrated accuracy in processing data, reviewing technical documentation, and maintaining detailed tracking logs.
- Foundational understanding of manufacturing flow, bills of materials (BOMs), and how planning, purchasing, and shop-floor operations work together.
Preferred Qualifications
- Exposure to master production schedule (MPS) concepts, sales forecast demand entry, or work authorization order processing.
- Basic understanding of balancing customer orders and forecasts against material supply, component lead times, and inventory constraints.
- Experience with supply chain simulation tools such as Kinaxis or advanced ERP planning modules, particularly Deltek Costpoint, to assess schedule impacts and lead-time feasibility.
- Familiarity with inventory abbreviations or pegging, IOP dates, and tracking MO aging and build-plan risks.
- Comfort collaborating with operations, purchasing, and manufacturing teams to maintain shop-floor flow and schedule visibility.
- APICS/ASCM certification, such as CPIM or CSCP, relevant coursework, or active progress toward certification.
