About Invoca Invoca is an AI-powered revenue execution platform that brings together marketing, commerce, and contact center teams to turn every customer interaction into measurable, profitable growth. Join our dynamic, fast-growing team, where innovation and collaboration are at the core of our culture.
About the Team Invoca is building an agentic development environment, one where software is designed, written, tested, deployed, and operated with AI as a first-class collaborator. The AI Platform team is what makes that real for the rest of R&D. The team owns the shared infrastructure that AI-powered products and agentic workflows are built on: paved paths and starter kits for MCP-based integrations, agent workflow configuration and policy, machine-to-machine identity and access, evaluation and telemetry, and the engineering analytics that tell us whether any of it is actually working.
This is a platform with customers. Its users are Invoca's own engineers, and its product is the speed, safety, and trust with which the whole company ships AI.
About the Role We're hiring an Engineering Manager to lead the AI Platform team. You'll manage a team of [6-8] engineers and own its delivery, operational health, and growth, reporting to the AI Engineering leadership. You'll inherit a team with real traction: platform components already adopted by peer teams, delivery instrumented with DORA-style analytics, and governance work in flight. Your job is to compound that. Grow the team, keep the platform trustworthy as its surface area expands, and turn adoption from early wins into the default way Invoca builds with AI.
This is a management role with technical teeth. You won't be the primary author of the architecture, but you need enough fluency in modern AI systems to hold a high bar in design reviews, pressure-test tradeoffs, and earn the trust of senior engineers.
What You'll Do Lead and grow the team
- Manage, coach, and develop the engineers on the AI Platform team: clear expectations, honest feedback, real career growth.
- Hire senior talent in a competitive market, and own candidate experience that top-tier passive candidates say yes to: tight loops, prepared interviewers, fast decisions.
- Build a culture of ownership and craft, where engineers use the agentic tools they build.
Own platform outcomes, not roadmap items
- Treat the platform as a product with internal users: define adoption goals, instrument them, and measure whether teams are actually better off because of your team's work.
- Partner with the Engineering and Product teams and architects on roadmap and priorities, and represent the platform in R&D planning.
- Favor paved paths and shared standards (ADRs, templates, reference implementations) over one-off, team-specific solutions.
Run delivery with data
- Own delivery health using DORA-style metrics and flow analysis. Our own analysis shows cycle time variation is driven mostly by queueing, not ticket difficulty; we expect you to manage flow and WIP, not just push effort.
- Make delivery predictable: honest estimates, visible risks, no surprise slips.
- Identify where high-volume, low-difficulty toil concentrates, and automate it.
Build trust into the platform
- Ship access controls, audit trails, and policy guardrails as first-class platform capabilities, not afterthoughts. Platform trust is the product.
- Embed operational rigor: incident management, on-call health, observability, and honest postmortems.
- Partner with Security and Infrastructure so governance keeps pace with capability.
- Hold high engineering standards, maintain platform SLOs, and make it easy to adopt and scale with a trustworthy platform
Champion the agentic development era
- Make your own team the reference implementation of AI-assisted engineering: agentic coding workflows, automated review gates, AI in the SDLC as habit rather than demo.
- Drive adoption of AI development tooling across R&D, moving teams from awareness to daily use, with an operator's playbook rather than a mandate.
What We're Looking For
- 8+ years in software engineering, including meaningful hands-on years building backend, platform, or infrastructure systems, and 3+ years managing engineers.
- Experience leading a platform, infrastructure, or developer-experience team whose customers are internal engineers, with a track record of driving measurable adoption.
- Working fluency in modern AI systems: LLM APIs, agent orchestration, MCP or similar integration protocols, evaluation, and telemetry. Enough depth to hold a technical bar; you don't need to be a researcher.
- Data-driven delivery management: you've used DORA metrics or equivalent to find and fix real bottlenecks, and you understand flow.
- Operational and security mindset: you've owned production services, run incident response, and treat access control and auditability as design requirements.
- Demonstrated success hiring and retaining senior engineers.
- Direct, calibrated communication with engineers and executives alike: honest characterization over spin, risks surfaced early.
- High ownership in ambiguous, fast-moving territory.
How Success Will Be Measured
Success in this role will look like:
- The majority of product teams building AI features do so on your team's paved paths, and platform telemetry, not anecdote, proves it.
- Delivery is predictable and measurably improving, with queues managed and toil visibly automated away.
- Every platform surface ships with access control, audit, and policy guardrails in place, and no incident is attributable to their absence.
- AI-assisted development is a daily habit inside your team and spreading across R&D.
- The team is retained, growing, and hiring well, and engineers name their manager as a reason they stay.
