Job Summary:
The Industrial Engineer is responsible for factory layout planning, space allocation, material flow design, and digital factory planning for AI server and rack manufacturing operations, supporting the product lifecycle from New Product Introduction (NPI) through production ramp and Mass Production (MP). This role develops and maintains factory layouts, analyzes space and capacity requirements, builds 3D factory models, digital twins, and simulations to validate capacity, throughput, and material flow before physical buildout, and coordinates layout and utility requirements (power, process cooling water, CDA, N2) with manufacturing, test, warehouse, facilities, and EHS teams to ensure that the factory footprint supports safe, efficient, and scalable production operations.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and maintain factory layout drawings and space allocation plans in AutoCAD, including space requirement analyses covering equipment footprints, aisle widths, material staging, WIP buffers, and utility clearances.
- Design and optimize material, logistics, and personnel flow to minimize travel distance, congestion, and handling, translating build plans and capacity models into floor space and equipment layout requirements.
- Build and maintain 3D digital factory models and digital twins of L10/L11 production lines, test areas, and warehouses using tools such as NVIDIA Omniverse (OpenUSD) or similar software, integrating layout, equipment, and utility data.
- Develop discrete-event simulation models (e.g., FlexSim, Plant Simulation) to validate capacity, throughput, takt time, buffer sizing, manpower, and material flow for NPI, ramp, and mass production scenarios, and translate results into layout and capacity recommendations.
- Coordinate layout and utility requirements with facilities, A/E, and general contractor teams, including power distribution, process cooling water and liquid cooling (FWS/TCS), compressed dry air (CDA), nitrogen (N2), exhaust, network, and ESD flooring; perform clash detection (e.g., Navisworks) and ensure layouts comply with safety, fire protection, emergency egress, ergonomics, and applicable regulatory requirements (e.g., OSHA, NFPA, local building codes).
- Support facility buildout, expansion, line relocation, and ramp phase transitions with layout drawings, phasing plans, virtual commissioning, 3D walkthroughs, and detailed equipment move and cutover plans, including installation layouts for new equipment, tooling, and test infrastructure.
- Analyze space utilization and operational data, maintain layout and digital planning standards, as-built documentation, and model version control, automate planning workflows (e.g., Python), prepare layout proposals and simulation results for management and customer reviews, and collaborate with Manufacturing, Test, Quality, Warehouse, Facilities, EHS, and Program Management teams, performing other related duties as assigned.
Education:
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related technical, engineering, or physics field required.
- Lean Six Sigma (Green Belt) or related certification preferred; AutoCAD, NVIDIA Omniverse, or FlexSim certification a plus.
Experience:
- Four to seven years of industrial engineering, facility planning, digital manufacturing, or manufacturing engineering experience in electronics, semiconductor, data center, or a related industry, including hands-on factory layout planning, space allocation, and material flow design.
- Proficiency with AutoCAD required; experience with discrete-event simulation tools (e.g., FlexSim, Plant Simulation, AnyLogic), digital twin platforms (e.g., NVIDIA Omniverse/OpenUSD), and Python scripting is a plus. Working knowledge of facility MEP systems (power distribution, process cooling water and liquid cooling, CDA, N2) and of safety, fire protection, and egress requirements affecting factory layouts is strongly preferred.
- Experience supporting NPI, production ramp, or facility buildout projects and with AI server, rack integration, or high-performance computing products and ODM/OEM manufacturing models preferred, combined with strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication skills and the ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced manufacturing environment.
Physical Demands & Working Conditions:
The Industrial Engineer works in office and manufacturing environments. The role requires extended computer use and the ability to sit, stand, walk, and move throughout the facility, including engineering labs, production lines, warehouse, utility, and customer-facing review areas. The position may involve exposure to noise, dust, or varying temperatures on the production floor or construction sites and requires appropriate personal protective equipment when necessary. Occasional domestic or international travel may be required to support customers, suppliers, or manufacturing sites.
