As a Federally Qualified Health Center (FQHC), First Choice operates six health centers and one school-based health center. Each year, we serve more than 50,000 individuals and families, offering comprehensive primary medical, dental, behavioral health, and WIC services. Our integrated care model incorporates behavioral health services within primary care to support whole-person wellness and improve health outcomes.

For over 50 years, First Choice Community Healthcare has provided high-quality, accessible healthcare to underserved populations throughout central New Mexico. Since 1972, our mission has been to improve the health, life skills, and wellbeing of all members of the communities we serve. Guided by an open-door philosophy, First Choice welcomes all patients and provides care regardless of income level, insurance status, or ability to pay.

First Choice is a Health Center Program grantee under 42 U.S.C. § 254b and a deemed Public Health Service employee under 42 U.S.C. § 233(g)-(n). Demonstrating our commitment to quality and patient safety, First Choice is accredited by The Joint Commission and has earned its Gold Seal of Approval®.

Beyond patient care, First Choice plays a critical role in strengthening New Mexico’s healthcare workforce. As a teaching and training site for medical and dental residents, medical assistants, laboratory and pharmacy technicians, and other healthcare professionals, we help prepare the next generation of providers. These providers, in turn, use their relationship to provide patients with access to the best academic medicine available and specialty care. Many First Choice providers participate in the National Health Service Corps loan repayment program, further supporting healthcare access in underserved communities.
