Industrial Engineer
Location: Westbrook, Connecticut
Employment Type: Full-Time | On-Site
Help Make Precision Manufacturing More Efficient We're recruiting an Industrial Engineer for an established, growing manufacturer of highly engineered precision components used in aerospace, medical and other demanding applications.
This is an opportunity for someone who enjoys understanding how manufacturing operations actually work - studying processes, analyzing production data, identifying inefficiencies and developing practical improvements that make a measurable difference.
You'll work closely with manufacturing, engineering, operations, quality and supply chain teams to improve production flow, establish accurate labor standards, evaluate capacity and help the organization make better manufacturing decisions. T he right person will be equally comfortable analyzing data and spending time on the production floor understanding the processes behind the numbers.
What You'll Be Doing
• Manufacturing Routings & Labor Standards: Evaluate and optimize production routings, conduct time studies and establish accurate labor standards.
• Capacity & Production Flow: Analyze manufacturing capacity, identify bottlenecks and recommend improvements to throughput and resource utilization.
• Manufacturing Cost Analysis: Evaluate labor, materials, overhead and process efficiency to develop accurate product cost estimates.
• Process Improvement: Map manufacturing workflows, identify waste and implement practical improvements using Lean and continuous improvement methods.
• Material Optimization: Analyze raw material usage and identify opportunities to reduce waste and manufacturing costs.
• Make-versus-Buy Analysis: Evaluate internal manufacturing capabilities against outside sourcing alternatives to support informed business decisions.
• Vendor Evaluation: Work with purchasing and engineering teams to evaluate suppliers and strengthen manufacturing and sourcing capabilities.
• Capital Investment Analysis: Calculate return on investment for equipment purchases, process improvements and other manufacturing investments.
• Performance Analysis: Investigate differences between actual and expected manufacturing performance, identify root causes and recommend corrective actions.
• Cross-Functional Collaboration: Work directly with production, engineering, quality and supply chain personnel to turn analysis into sustainable improvements.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor's degree in Industrial Engineering or a related technical discipline.
- Experience in manufacturing operations, industrial engineering or process improvement.
- Practical experience conducting time studies, establishing labor standards or analyzing production efficiency.
- Understanding of manufacturing routings, process flow and capacity analysis.
- Strong analytical skills and the ability to interpret manufacturing data.
- Familiarity with Lean manufacturing, Six Sigma or similar continuous improvement methods.
- Ability to work effectively with engineers, production personnel and management.
- Good communication skills and a practical, hands-on approach to problem-solving.
Additional experience that's valuable:
- Manufacturing cost estimating and variance analysis.
- Make-versus-buy studies and ROI calculations.
- Value stream mapping and process documentation.
- Advanced Excel or other data analysis tools.
- ERP/MRP systems and manufacturing routing data.
- Lean Six Sigma Green Belt certification or equivalent experience.
You don't need to have worked in every one of these areas. We're particularly interested in candidates who have demonstrated the ability to analyze manufacturing operations, identify opportunities and help implement meaningful improvements.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
This is an opportunity to work for an established precision manufacturer with a strong engineering culture, sophisticated manufacturing operations and a commitment to long-term growth.
You'll have the opportunity to influence manufacturing performance through practical analysis and improvements, rather than simply generating reports.
The company also offers an attractive benefits package, including:
- Company-paid health insurance
- Profit sharing
- Tuition reimbursement
- Daycare subsidy
- Opportunities for professional growth and development
The position is based in Westbrook, Connecticut, near the Connecticut shoreline.
