Production Scheduler The Production Scheduler converts the approved Master Production Schedule (MPS), customer priorities, and operational commitments into detailed daily and weekly manufacturing schedules. This role sequences and prioritizes released work orders across manufacturing cells and work centers using due dates, material readiness, available capacity, work-in-process status, setup considerations, outside-service timing, and other production constraints.
The Production Scheduler operates within Manufacturing Operations and works closely with the Production Foreman, Supply Chain Master Scheduler, Quality, Engineering, and other support functions to maintain flow, communicate changes, identify schedule risks, and keep ERP priorities aligned with the executable shop plan. Who are we? Founded in 1849, Ducommun is the oldest company in California. Starting as a hardware supply store during the California Gold Rush and eventually assisted in the birth of the aerospace industry in Southern California by providing aircraft aluminum to early aerospace pioneers like Lindbergh, Douglas and Lockheed. Today Ducommun is a global provider of innovative manufacturing solutions for customers in the aerospace, defense and industrial markets. We specialize in electronic and structural systems, producing complex products and components for commercial aircraft platforms, mission-critical military and space programs, and sophisticated industrial applications. Our Facility in Warren, RI is responsible for engineering and manufacturing some of the world’s most advanced sealing solutions.
Essential Functions:
- Develop and maintain detailed daily and weekly production schedules that translate the MPS and business priorities into executable work-center and work-order priorities.
- Schedule and sequence released work orders based on customer need date, material readiness, routing requirements, WIP position, available capacity, setup reduction opportunities, tooling, labor qualifications, and downstream constraints.
- Continuously review WIP, queue levels, operation status, and projected completion dates; adjust priorities when downtime, quality issues, labor constraints, material shortages, outside-service delays, or other disruptions affect execution.
- Maintain accurate production priorities, planned dates, and scheduling information in the ERP system and communicate changes to affected stakeholders.
- Coordinate with production leadership and cell leadership to confirm near-term schedule feasibility, identify execution risks, and support timely movement of work through constrained operations.
- Sequence work to support flow and on-time delivery while minimizing unnecessary schedule changes, excessive setups, and avoidable WIP movement.
- Monitor schedule attainment, past-due work, queue age, capacity loading, and other execution indicators; provide clear status and risk information to the Senior Operations Manager and Production Foreman.
- Partner with Supply Chain to communicate material shortages, supplier or outside-service constraints, and capacity feedback that may affect the MPS or customer commitments.
- Coordinate production priorities with Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, Purchasing/Supply Chain, Final Inspection, and other functions to resolve constraints and maintain product flow.
- Support recovery plans, schedule simulations, and priority scenarios when demand or operational conditions change.
- Participate in daily/weekly production meetings and maintain a clear, controlled source of truth for shop priorities.
- Serve as a backup to Supply Chain Master Scheduler on issuing outside service purchase orders and follow-ups as required.
- Responsible for storing and handling all Controlled Unclassified Information (CUI) appropriately to prevent unauthorized access, dissemination, or use of this information or documentation.
- Support all visitor and security policies to protect ITAR/EAR/CMMC/CUI information, documents, product, etc. from unauthorized access by informing management immediately of any concerns.
- Support continuous-improvement initiatives related to scheduling, ERP data quality, WIP visibility, and production-flow processes.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
- Regular and acceptable attendance is an essential function of this job.
