Department: Maintenance Reports To: City Mechanic Supervisor FLSA Status: Part-Time / Non-Exempt Position Summary Performs general cleaning and maintenance duties to ensure the shop facility is safe, clean, and operational. Assists mechanics with basic vehicle and equipment maintenance and performs related duties as assigned. Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Maintain cleanliness of shop facility, including:
- Sweeping floors, removing trash, and emptying trash receptacles
- Cleaning restrooms, break areas, and common spaces
- Assist mechanics with shop operations, including:
- Retrieving parts and supplies
- Rotating tires and assisting with minor equipment maintenance
- Supporting upkeep of small equipment (e.g., mowers, weed eaters)
· Perform basic vehicle servicing tasks such as:
- Changing oil and filters
- Checking fluid levels, batteries, and tire conditions · Follow all safety procedures and use required protective equipment · Perform other duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications · High school diploma or GED preferred · Ability to read and follow basic instructions · Valid driver’s license required · No prior experience required; mechanical aptitude is a plus
Physical Requirements · Frequent standing, walking, lifting, and carrying equipment · Ability to perform manual labor in various weather conditions · Occasional kneeling, crawling, climbing, and reaching · Ability to lift and move moderate-weight materials
Work Environment · Exposure to dirt, dust, noise, fumes, and varying temperatures · Work performed both indoors (shop) and outdoors · Regular exposure to mechanical and chemical hazards
Equipment Used Mops, brooms, hand tools, shop equipment, and light machinery
Safety Requirements
Must wear appropriate personal protective equipment (PPE), including:
· Safety glasses · Steel-toe boots · Other equipment as required
