Seeking a dedicated, detail-oriented Quality Inspector to support our defense and combat systems maintenance, overhaul, and manufacturing operations. In this role, you will perform quality verification, in-process evaluations, and final acceptance inspections on tactical combat vehicles, armaments, and associated mechanical assemblies. The ideal candidate pairs foundational mechanical aptitude with strong analytical and communication skills. You will not only work in demanding shopfloor and field environments but also contribute directly to quality engineering efforts by researching specifications, trending performance data in Microsoft Excel, participating in root cause investigations, and briefing leadership and customer representatives.
Essential Job Functions:
Hands-On Inspection & Technical Verification Conduct incoming, in-process, and final quality inspections on combat equipment, tactical vehicles, mechanical subassemblies, and fabricated components. Research, interpret, and verify compliance against technical manuals (TMs), technical data packages (TDPs), military standards (MIL-STDs), engineering blueprints, and work instructions. Utilize standard precision measurement tools (calipers, micrometers, torque wrenches, bore gauges, dial indicators, and optical devices) to verify dimensional integrity and proper assembly. Identify, document, and segregate non-conforming items. Root Cause Analysis & Continuous Improvement Partner with Quality Engineers, manufacturing technicians, and field support teams to assist in Root Cause Analysis (RCA) utilizing methodologies such as 5 Whys and Fishbone diagrams. Assist in developing, validating, and monitoring Corrective and Preventive Actions (CAPA) to mitigate recurrence of defects. Monitor rework and repair processes to ensure adherence to approved disposition procedures. Data Analysis, Reporting & Briefings Track, compile, and maintain inspection metrics and defect logs. Utilize Microsoft Excel to analyze trends, generate run charts, evaluate Pareto distributions of common failures, and maintain quality tracking dashboards. Develop concise briefing slides (Microsoft PowerPoint) and present quality findings, systemic issues, and containment actions to internal teams and external stakeholders. Customer & Stakeholder Relations Serve as an inspection liaison with customer quality representatives, government inspectors, and field service liaisons. Maintain positive, transparent, and professional working relationships with customer representatives during formal audits, joint inspections, and product handoffs. Working Conditions & Physical Demands Environmental Exposure: Ability to work outdoors and in unconditioned industrial facilities in all weather conditions, including extreme heat, cold, rain, and humidity. Confined & Challenging Spaces: Ability to inspect combat vehicles and equipment in cramped compartments, low-light spaces, elevated platforms, and dusty or greasy environments. Physical Agility: Ability to climb onto and into tactical equipment, crawl, kneel, bend, stoop, and stand for extended periods. Lifting: Regularly lift and transport inspection tools and equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. PPE: Willingness to wear required Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) including safety glasses, steel-toe boots, ear protection, hard hats, and respirators when needed.
Required Skills:
Due to the sensitivity of customer related requirements, U.S. Citizenship is required. Ability to obtain security clearance. Must have a high school diploma/GED with 16 years of experience. Minimum of 2 years of quality control or mechanical inspection experience, preferably within military, defense, aerospace, or heavy industrial maintenance sectors. Equipment Background: Demonstrated familiarity or prior hands-on experience with military combat equipment, tactical wheeled/tracked vehicles, or heavy mechanized machinery. Mechanical Knowledge: Solid understanding of basic mechanical, hydraulic, pneumatic, and electrical principles. Technical Literacy: Proven ability to read and interpret technical manuals, military technical publications, schematics, and mechanical blueprints.
Software Proficiency:
Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Excel (ability to manage datasets, build charts, use pivot tables, and identify defect trends). Working knowledge of Microsoft PowerPoint for building presentations and technical debriefs. Communication: Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to confidently present technical data to technical and non-technical audiences.
