As Retail Display Designer, you will own the design of everything that shows up on the physical retail floor - in-store displays, POS and threshold signage, retail fixtures, and partnership in-store activations - while also supporting packaging design as volume requires. You’ll work closely with the Junior Art Director to make sure Cymbiotika’s in-store presence is as strong and on-brand as our digital shelf, and with the Sr. Packaging Designer to keep packaging production moving. This is a specialist role for someone who thinks in physical space and structure as much as in layout - you understand how a design translates to a printed, die-cut, fabricated, or assembled object on a retail floor, not just how it looks on a screen. Key Responsibilites
In-Store & Retail Display Design
- Design in-store displays, POS materials, threshold ads, and retail fixtures for new launches, evergreen SKUs, and partnership activations.
- Design partnership and retailer-specific in-store signage, ensuring brand and partner requirements are both met.
- Produce accurate, production-ready files for display and signage vendors, including dielines, specs, and mockups.
- Create in-store and display renders to pressure-test concepts before they go to physical production.
- Partner with the Junior Art Director on concepting for retail displays and instore campaigns.
Packaging Support
- Support packaging artwork and print-ready file needs alongside the Sr. Packaging Designer as volume requires.
- Help maintain packaging die-line and production file organization.
- Apply the same structural/production rigor used for displays to packaging support work as needed.
Production & Cross-Functional Coordination
- Work directly with display, signage, and print vendors to ensure specs, materials, and timelines are met.
- Coordinate with the Project Management team on display and packaging production timelines as critical path.
- Flag production or structural issues early, before they become costly downstream.
Quality & Process
- Ensure all display and signage work meets brand standards for quality, accuracy, and retailer compliance.
- Maintain attention to detail on specs, scale, and material call-outs - mistakes here are expensive to fix once printed or fabricated.
- Use and help maintain reusable templates for recurring display and signage deliverables.
- Stay current with AI-generated rendering tools to speed up concept-to-mockup turnaround.
Additional Duties: Perform other related duties, responsibilities, and special projects as assigned based on business needs and organizational priorities. Onsite Collaboration: This role requires regular onsite presence to support in-person collaboration, effective communication, cross-functional teamwork, and coordination with internal teams and external partners to achieve business objectives.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Graphic Design, Industrial Design, Packaging Design, or a related field (or equivalent experience).
- 2–4+ years of design experience with a portfolio that includes retail displays, POS/signage, or structural/packaging design - not layout-only design.
- Comfortable working with dielines, production specs, and print/fabrication vendors.
- Skilled in Adobe Creative Suite (Illustrator essential for dielines/structural work) and AI-generated rendering tools.
- Strong understanding of how a design translates into a physical, fabricated object - materials, scale, and production constraints.
- Detail-oriented and comfortable owning production accuracy, since display and packaging errors are costly to reprint.
- Collaborative, with experience working directly with vendors, packaging, and production teams.
Work Location & Schedule This position follows an enforced onsite schedule, requiring team members to be present in our San Diego, California office at least four days per week (Monday–Thursday). Fridays are available for remote work. This role also requires attendance at all in-person monthly team meetings and quarterly company events. Physical Requirements This role primarily involves office-based work and requires the ability to occasionally lift, carry, or move items up to 20–30 pounds, such as files or office supplies. Employees should be able to sit or stand for extended periods and perform frequent computer-based tasks, including prolonged exposure to a computer screen. Compensation & Total Rewards The salary range for this position is $72,000-85,000 annually. Final compensation will be determined based on experience, skills, and qualifications relevant to the role.
