Description
An Audio Visual (AV) Technician in a cleared government facility plays a critical role in maintaining secure unified communications across classified and unclassified networks. This role strictly demands compliance with government security protocols, TEMPEST standards, and information assurance rules alongside standard AV integration skills. The A/V Technician physically installs/de-installs integrated a/v hardware, wires, and tests collaboration systems. They read project schematics to determine the current cabling, assemble equipment racks, terminate cables, and configure hardware like cameras, microphones, video displays, and DSPs in corporate or government conference rooms
- Incident Triage & Resolution: Own the lifecycle of AV-related incidents from identification to closure. Provide rapid Tier 1/2/3 remote and on-site troubleshooting for system crashes, audio dropouts, display failures, and secure VTC connectivity issues.
- Ticketing & SLA Compliance: Manage, document, and track outages using enterprise ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow, Jira). Ensure all incidents are handled within established SLAs and escalate complex infrastructural or network bugs to engineering teams.
- Proactive Monitoring: Use AV management platforms (e.g., Crestron XiO Cloud, Extron GlobalViewer, Cisco CUCM, Cisco VQ) to continuously monitor the health of enterprise endpoints.
- Root Cause Analysis (RCA): Participate in post-incident reviews to identify recurring technical failures. Author knowledge-base documentation and standard operating procedures (SOPs) to streamline future troubleshooting workflows. Qualifications & Requirements
- Framework Knowledge: Strong familiarity with ITIL Foundations (Information Technology Infrastructure Library) principles, specifically Incident Management, Problem Management, and Request Fulfillment.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency in diagnosing signal flow issues across digital video/audio matrices and DSPs (e.g., Biamp, Q-SYS).
- Firm grasp of IP networking (TCP/IP, DHCP, VLANs) as it applies to AV-over-IP architectures.
- Experience supporting enterprise unified communications tools (Zoom Rooms, Microsoft Teams Rooms, Cisco Webex Devices).
Requirements
Certifications:
- Highly Desirable: AVIXA Certified Technology Specialist (CTS).
- IT/Management: ITIL v4 Foundation certification, CompTIA Network+ or Security+.
- Vendor-Specific: Crestron Technician, Q-SYS Level 1, or Cisco Collaboration certifications. Soft Skills: Exceptional situational awareness and calm under pressure. Ability to communicate technical issues clearly to non-technical corporate executives or government stakeholders during high-stress system outages. Essential Qualifications
- Technical Skills: Strong understanding of signal routing, multimedia VTC platforms (like Microsoft Teams Rooms or Cisco Webex), and network architectures.
- Physical Ability: Ability to work on ladders, lift heavy equipment (typically 50+ lbs), and work in tight spaces like ceilings or under floors.
- Clearance: Minimum Secret Clearance
