The position handles recurring billing and meter-read processes, establishes and maintains the account, service, meter, and location records that support billing, researches and resolves billing and usage issues, responds directly to customers on complex or escalated account matters, and serves as a technical resource for Utility Billing staff. The work includes both scheduled processes and problem-solving. Some responsibilities follow established billing timelines, while others require researching an unexpected result, comparing information across systems, coordinating with another work group, or determining the appropriate next step.
What you'll get to do:

- Complete recurring billing-cycle and meter-read activities, review consumption and billing information, address read-related issues, and follow through on corrections needed to keep bill production accurate and on schedule.
- Account, Service, Meter & Location Setup and Maintenance
- Establish and maintain the account, service, meter, and location information that utility billing relies on. Process new and changed services, meter installations and replacements, location and address changes, and other system updates that affect how a property or customer is set up and billed. Coordinate with other departments and utility partners when updates are needed.
- Billing & Usage Review, Adjustments and Exception Resolution
- Review billing, usage, and account activity to identify errors, unusual conditions, adjustment needs, unbilled activity, and other exceptions. Use account history, reports, system information, and supporting documentation to determine what happened and what action is needed.
- Technical Support, Customer Resolution, & Collaboration
- Serve as a technical resource for Utility Billing staff and respond directly to customers on complex or escalated billing and account concerns. Provide real-time support to Customer Service Representatives, step in when an issue requires additional research or assistance, and help explain account activity, policies, rates, codes, procedures, and available options. Review information for trends, gaps, and follow-up needs; support system and process changes; and maintain working knowledge across Program Technician and core customer-service functions to help provide coverage and maintain service continuity when operational needs require it.
Qualities we are looking for:
- Detail-Oriented
- You notice inconsistencies and want to understand why they happened. You can work carefully with detailed information while still keeping deadlines and the larger process in mind.
- Problem Solver
- You’re comfortable researching an issue, gathering the right information, identifying the likely cause, and determining the next step instead of simply passing the problem along.
- Organized & Dependable
- You can balance recurring responsibilities with unexpected work, keep track of what is still outstanding, and follow assignments through to completion.
- Comfortable with Systems & Data
- You’re comfortable learning new software, working with spreadsheets and reports, comparing information from different sources, and understanding how one process can affect another.
- Independent Learner
- You ask thoughtful questions, use available resources, apply what you’ve learned, and adapt as procedures, systems, and technology change.
- Clear & Collaborative Communicator
- You can explain complex or technical information clearly, including when a customer is frustrated or the answer may not be what they hoped for. You work effectively with customers, coworkers, and partners across different roles and departments.
