Description
Data Analyst Remote, Eastern time zone hours · Technology team Direct supervisor: Chief Technology and AI Officer
About us
Children's Specialized ABA provides applied behavior analysis therapy to children with autism, in our clinics and in families' homes, across a growing number of states. We are building a technology team to take manual work out of how the company runs, and better reporting is a big part of that. We run on Microsoft, with our data in Databricks and our reporting in Power BI.
About the role We are looking for a data analyst to own our reporting: the Power BI dashboards leadership relies on every week, the recurring reports departments depend on, and the ad hoc analysis that comes up in between. You will turn questions from finance, operations, clinical and HR leaders into accurate, easy-to-read reports, and use AI tools to get there faster. Much of the data involved is protected health information, so handling it carefully is part of the job. This is a hands-on role on a small, new team. You will work directly with the Chief Technology and AI Officer and alongside our engineers, who bring new data into the platform. Requests come from several departments, and you will work on what is highest priority.
Examples of the work
- Dashboards that leadership uses to run the business.
- Recurring operational, financial and clinical reports.
- Consolidating reports so each metric is defined once.
- Clean data sets that teams can pull into Excel for their own analysis.
What you will do
- Own our Power BI reports and dashboards: maintain them, fix issues, and keep them accurate as source systems change.
- Build new dashboards and reports for finance, operations, clinical and HR leaders, starting from the question they need answered.
- Write SQL against our Databricks environment, and build clean, documented tables and views that reports and Excel users can rely on.
- Define and document key metrics so the same number means the same thing in every report.
- Check results against the source systems before they are shared, and track down and fix discrepancies.
- Use AI tools to work faster: drafting and checking DAX and SQL, documenting and migrating reports, and automating recurring ones.
- Automate reports and data pulls that are built by hand today.
- Handle PHI correctly: role-based access, row-level security, and sharing only what each audience needs.
- Answer ad hoc questions from leadership quickly, and be clear about what the data can and cannot support.
- Work with our engineers when a report needs new data brought in from a source system.
What you bring
- Three or more years in data analysis or business intelligence, with Power BI as a main tool.
- Strong DAX and Power Query, and a solid grasp of data modeling (star schemas, relationships, measures).
- Strong SQL.
- Advanced Excel.
- Experience using AI tools in day-to-day analysis work, and the judgment to check what they produce.
- Care with numbers: you reconcile totals to the source, notice when a sample is too small to support a conclusion, and explain results clearly to non-technical leaders.
- Experience working with PHI under HIPAA, or with other sensitive data.
- Comfortable working independently, juggling requests from several departments, and keeping people updated.
Nice to have
- Databricks or Spark SQL.
- Python for analysis and automation.
- Power BI administration: workspaces, deployment pipelines, gateways and scheduled refresh.
- Basic statistics, such as cohort comparisons and significance testing.
- Data from EMR, CRM, HRIS or telephony systems.
- Healthcare, behavioral health, or billing and payer data experience.
Our environment Azure, Databricks, Power BI, Excel and Microsoft 365. Our data comes from an EMR, a CRM, an HRIS and a cloud phone and messaging system, among other sources. Children's Specialized ABA is an equal opportunity employer.
