Healthcare’s helping hand.
CHG shook things up in 1979 by inventing the locum tenens staffing model. We connect doctors with patients who need their care. As the largest physician staffing firm in America, our providers treat millions of patients each year.
Our industry is growing and demand is high. This means you’ll have plenty of opportunities to grow and develop in your career. Keeping healthcare healthy can be as fun as it is rewarding We're looking for a Senior Software Engineer to build and evolve the document management platform that CHG's staffing brands rely on every day. You'll work across the full stack: Java and Spring Boot services on the backend, and Vue.js and TypeScript on the front end as we move toward React. You'll also work with Salesforce and with event-driven services on Kafka and AWS. This is a hands-on senior role. You'll shape architecture, raise the engineering bar through code review and mentoring, and deliver in an agile team, working side by side with our Staff Engineer and every teammate. This role reports to the Senior Manager of Engineering.
Responsibilities
- Build and modernize full-stack applications using Java/Spring Boot, Node.js, Vue.js and TypeScript, and help lead the gradual move from Vue to React, using AI coding tools and clear specs to move faster without lowering quality.
- Design scalable microservices, RESTful APIs and event-driven integrations (Kafka) that follow our enterprise architecture principles, including integrations with Salesforce.
- Ship containerized applications to AWS and Kubernetes through CI/CD pipelines (GitHub Actions), backed by automated unit, integration and end-to-end tests.
- Collaborate closely with our Staff Engineer and every member of the team on design, planning and code review, and with product managers, designers, support teams and business stakeholders to deliver the right solution. Keep legacy services reliable while we modernize them.
- Mentor other engineers through code review, shared best practices and architecture discussions, team presentations.
Qualifications
- Mastery of Java and Spring Boot, plus JavaScript, TypeScript and Node.js
- Front-end experience with Vue.js and/or React
- Experience designing and consuming RESTful microservices and event-driven systems
- Solid SQL skills and relational database experience, ideally PostgreSQL
- Hands-on experience with Git, CI/CD, AWS, containers and Kubernetes
- A habit of writing well-tested code (JUnit, Jest, end-to-end tests)
- Clear communication and a genuine interest in teaching others
- Hands-on experience using AI coding assistants (such as Claude Code) to design, build, test and document software, with good judgment in reviewing AI-generated code, and familiarity with extending them through skills and MCP (Model Context Protocol) connections
- A team-first mindset: you share credit, ask for help early, take feedback well, and follow through on what you commit to the team
- The maturity to disagree respectfully, then fully support the team's decision
- Kindness toward others and real enjoyment in seeing teammates grow and succeed
Education & Experience
- Bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field, or equivalent work experience
- 5+ years of hands-on, professional full-stack software engineering experience
Preferred
- Experience with Salesforce (Apex, Lightning)
- Experience migrating a front end from Vue to React
- Experience with document or PDF processing, or cloud file storage such as S3
- Familiarity with OAuth/JWT-based authentication and core security principles
- Experience building Claude skills or MCP servers and connections to automate engineering workflows
- Experience with Kafka or other event-streaming platforms
