ABOUT THE ROLE:
We are seeking a hands-on Sustaining Engineer to support and enhance our existing product portfolio and manufacturing operations.
In this role, you’ll play a key part in maintaining and improving product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and lifecycle continuity. You’ll investigate and troubleshoot product and production issues, identify root causes, and develop and validate effective solutions. You’ll also support component substitutions, product redesigns, engineering changes, and product improvements - helping ensure changes are thoroughly evaluated, documented, and successfully introduced into production.
This is a highly hands-on role where you’ll work directly with electronic hardware, PCB assemblies, test equipment, prototypes, test fixtures, and production test environments. You’ll collaborate closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and production teams to solve problems, improve processes, and keep products performing reliably in the field and on the production floor.
What You'll Do
- Investigate and troubleshoot product and production issues, perform root-cause analysis, and implement effective corrective actions.
- Maintain and improve product performance, reliability, manufacturability, and lifecycle continuity across the existing product portfolio.
- Support component substitutions, obsolescence solutions, and product redesigns, including evaluation, testing, documentation, and production implementation.
- Partner with Engineering, Manufacturing, Quality, Operations, and technicians to resolve technical and production challenges.
- Develop, improve, and maintain test procedures, work instructions, and technical documentation for engineering and production use.
- Set up, operate, and troubleshoot electronic hardware, PCB assemblies, prototypes, test fixtures, and production test equipment.
- Support engineering change activities, including ECOs/ECNs, configuration control, change evaluation, and implementation planning.
- Participate in product testing, qualification, reliability, and validation activities to confirm performance requirements are met.
- Support prototype builds, rework, troubleshooting, and other hands-on engineering and production activities as needed.
- Provide technical guidance and training to technicians and production personnel on product functionality, test methods, and troubleshooting.
- Analyze recurring field and production issues, identify trends, and drive improvements that reduce defects, downtime, and repeat problems.
What We're Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent hands-on engineering experience.
- Linux, Python, BASH, or similar scripting language knowledge.
- Experience in a sustaining, manufacturing, test, hardware, or similar engineering role supporting electronic products.
- Strong hands-on troubleshooting skills with electronic hardware and experience using test equipment such as oscilloscopes, multimeters, and logic analyzers.
- Experience working with PCB assemblies, prototypes, test fixtures, and production test environments.
- Demonstrated ability to perform structured root-cause analysis and develop, validate, and document effective corrective actions.
- Familiarity with engineering change processes, such as ECOs/ECNs, and configuration or revision control.
- Experience supporting component substitutions, product obsolescence, or product redesign activities.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving, documentation, and communication skills, with the ability to explain technical issues to both technical and non-technical audiences.
- Comfortable working in a hands-on production environment and managing multiple priorities in a fast-paced setting.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with reliability, environmental, qualification, or validation testing of electronic products.
- Familiarity with regulatory or compliance requirements for electronic products.
- Experience with automated or semi-automated production test systems.
- Experience with continuous improvement, manufacturing processes, or product lifecycle management.
