Signature Modeling Engineer
Huntsville, AL
Who We Are
Aurex is a mission-focused aerospace and defense company building the next frontier of deterrence. From hypersonics and missile defense to hardened networks and orbital systems, we design, test, and deliver the platforms that turn unproven ideas into battlefield-ready capability.
Born in Huntsville and built for speed, Aurex brings together aerospace veterans, combat-tested operators, and forward-leaning technologists to solve problems that matter - fast. We move from whiteboard to warfighter with precision, clarity, and zero tolerance for fluff.
Job Overview
Aurex is seeking a Signature Modeling Engineer focused primarily on radio frequency (RF) signatures, particularly radar cross section (RCS) prediction and analysis. Hands-on XPATCH experience is required. The engineer will prepare models from supplied CAD or other geometry, conduct analyses, and document results, assumptions, and limitations for aerospace and defense modeling and simulation programs.
Thermal or infrared (IR) signature modeling experience is highly desired and offers a significant advantage in candidate selection, but is not required. Strong RCS candidates with hands-on XPATCH experience are encouraged to apply, including those without prior IR experience.
When not assigned to signature work, the engineer will support other modeling, simulation, and analysis tasks, including missile and hypersonic mission studies, end-to-end performance analysis, and aerospace and AI projects. Assignments will match the engineer’s experience, with guidance from relevant specialists. Expertise in every application area is not expected.
The Opportunity
- Prepare and inspect CAD and mesh geometry, develop radar signature models, and generate RCS predictions using XPATCH.
- Evaluate modeling assumptions, input quality, numerical behavior, and uncertainty. Investigate discrepancies and explain limitations.
- Assess model credibility by comparing predictions with reference solutions, measurements, or other suitable evidence.
- Develop scripts and repeatable workflows for analysis, data processing, quality checks, and reporting.
- Contribute to thermal and IR signature analysis based on project needs and experience, with specialist support as needed.
- Deliver signature data and documentation for integration into larger modeling and simulation environments.
- Support mission engineering and end-to-end performance studies involving missile and hypersonic defense, hypersonic vehicle modeling, and interceptor modeling.
- Support other modeling and analysis assignments as workload requires. Examples include trajectory and guidance, navigation, and control (GNC) studies, simulation support for AI and reinforcement learning, and AI performance analysis.
- Plan assigned work, communicate progress and technical issues, and present findings to teammates, project leads, and customers.
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, physics, aerospace engineering, or a related technical discipline, or equivalent technical preparation and directly relevant experience.
- At least three years of directly relevant experience in RCS modeling, prediction, and analysis.
- Demonstrated hands-on XPATCH experience, including troubleshooting modeling or numerical problems.
- Experience completing RCS analyses from CAD or other geometry through model preparation, execution, assessment, and documentation.
- Working knowledge of electromagnetic scattering and computational electromagnetic methods, including their assumptions and appropriate use.
- Ability to assess model credibility, interpret quantitative results, and explain uncertainty without overstating accuracy.
- Experience with scientific programming or scripting to process engineering data and automate repeatable work.
- Ability to take on varied engineering assignments, learn unfamiliar tools and mission domains, and work with guidance from discipline specialists.
- Ability to document technical work, maintain organized model and data versions, and collaborate across engineering disciplines.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience generating and validating thermal or IR signatures is highly desired.
- Experience comparing computational predictions with measured signature data and investigating differences.
- Blender experience for creating, inspecting, or modifying three-dimensional geometry.
- Experience in one or more of the broader modeling, simulation, or analysis areas described above.
- Experience integrating signature products into engineering simulations and presenting findings to customers or technical reviewers.
- An advanced degree or additional applied experience in electromagnetics, radar signatures, infrared phenomenology, or a related field.
