Job Description
The Surgical Technologist will prepare the operating room, set up surgical equipment, and maintain the sterile field. Responsibilities include passing instruments, fluids, and supplies to the surgeon, as well as managing surgical equipment and specimens during procedures. The Surgical Technologist will perform inventory counts of sponges and supplies to prevent foreign retained objects.
This position requires experience in various surgical specialties, including general, orthopedics, OBGYN, podiatry, urology, plastics, endovascular, trauma, and robotics (DaVinci).
The surgical unit consists of 6 operating rooms and has an average monthly volume of 250-300 procedures.
Responsibilities
- Prepare the operating room and ensure a sterile environment.
- Set up surgical instruments, equipment, and supplies for procedures.
- Assist the surgical team by passing instruments and supplies during surgery.
- Manage surgical specimens and ensure accurate counts of items used during procedures.
- Adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
- Handle on-call shifts as required, including 1 weekday and weekend rotation.
Required Experience
- Must have at least 2 years of surgical technologist experience in the operating room.
- Demonstrated experience in the surgical specialties outlined in the job description.
- BLS certification is required.
Certifications/Licensure
Certification as a Surgical Technologist from a CAAHEP-accredited program and successful completion of the national Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) examination is required.
