Since our founding nearly 150 years ago, American Humane Society has served as a beacon for all those who cherish the human-animal bond. We provide meaningful, humane direction through an ever-expanding lens of scientific knowledge and grassroots compassion. And we make animals our top priority when it comes to their safety, their treatment, their wellbeing and their place in our world.
American Humane Society is an authoritative voice of animal protection and welfare and an internationally recognized force for promoting humane treatment and awareness. Our impact is felt around the world - protecting and caring for over 1.7 billion animals annually across the globe. Through programs that began in the U.S. with the rescue of animal lives on and off the battlefield, we now continue globally, advancing humane standards, supporting conservation and strengthening communities to build a more humane world.
