It’s hard to believe it’s been more than 75 years since nine Montana refinery workers pooled their savings into a simple cash box inside an empty boxcar. Little did they know, that small act of cooperation would grow into something extraordinary.

The first loan they made helped someone buy a sewing machine - and the rest, as they say, is history.

Thanks to their leap of faith, we’re here today. What began as Laurel Federal Credit Union has grown into Altana Federal Credit Union, proudly serving individuals and families who live, work, or worship across 49 counties in Montana and Wyoming.

Today, we help our members build their dream homes and businesses, purchase their first vehicles, and save for education or retirement.

What hasn’t changed in over seven decades is the cooperative spirit that inspired those first founders. Their belief - that thrift, savings, and community support can transform lives - remains the cornerstone of who we are.
