Job Title: Electrical Foreman / Medium Voltage ElectricianJob DescriptionThis role leads electrical construction crews on large industrial and data-center projects, overseeing low-voltage inside-wireman work and medium-voltage installations. You will manage the installation and termination of new electrical infrastructure, including conduit, cable tray, underground duct banks, cable, wire, and 415 V / 480 V building and feeder systems, as well as medium-voltage equipment up to 34.5 kV. This is a hands-on construction and commissioning position focused on building new systems from drawings, supporting first energization, and turning completed work over to operations, not maintaining existing facilities.
Responsibilities
- Lead electrical construction crews performing low-voltage inside-wireman work on industrial and data-center projects.
- Oversee installation and termination of new electrical infrastructure, including conduit, cable tray, underground duct bank, cable, wire, and 480 V building and feeder systems.
- Direct hands-on work with 415 V and 480 V equipment such as switchgear, busway, PDUs, UPS systems, main switchboards (MSBs), and grounding systems.
- Install and commission medium-voltage systems at 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV as part of data center build-outs.
- Lead crews installing e-house medium-voltage switchgear (MVSG), generator step-up transformers (GSUs), 15 kV and 35 kV cable, and duct banks.
- Support hipot and very low frequency (VLF) testing of medium-voltage cable and equipment and coordinate work adjacent to live campus buses.
- Interpret and work from construction drawings, one-line diagrams, manuals, and work packages to plan and execute electrical installations.
- Perform and supervise terminations, land and torque connections, and ensure high-quality physical construction work in accordance with project specifications.
- Apply NFPA 70E and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures and adhere to OSHA 1910.269 requirements for medium-voltage switching and clearances.
- Support first energization of new 480 V and medium-voltage systems, ensuring safety, documentation, and proper commissioning steps.
- Use common electrical test tools, including multimeters, meggers, and ammeters, to verify installations and troubleshoot issues.
- Coordinate crew activities, provide leadership on site, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to schedule.
- Travel with project teams to active construction sites on a rotational basis, mobilizing to new facilities as projects progress.
- Work nights, weekends, and extended shifts as needed during critical construction and energization phases.
- Maintain clear communication with project stakeholders and document work performed, terminations, and test results.
Essential Skills
- State journeyman electrician license for low-voltage inside-wireman work.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial or data center electrical construction foreman experience leading crews installing conduit, tray, duct bank, cable, and 480 V terminations.
- Minimum of 5 years of industrial or data-center construction experience, specifically in build or commissioning environments rather than facilities, service, or plant operations.
- Minimum of 5 years of medium-voltage construction experience at 5 kV or above; 415 V and 480 V experience does not count toward this medium-voltage requirement.
- Documented experience performing 15 kV and/or 35 kV terminations, supported by resume details or manufacturer terminator cards.
- Experience leading crews on medium-voltage construction scopes, including e-house MV switchgear, generator step-up transformers, 15 kV and 35 kV cable, duct banks, and work adjacent to live buses.
- Strong ability to read and interpret construction drawings, one-line diagrams, manuals, and detailed work packages.
- Hands-on experience installing electrical systems from prints, including terminations, landing and torquing connections, and physical construction work.
- Working knowledge of NFPA 70E electrical safety standards and lockout/tagout (LOTO) procedures.
- Understanding and application of OSHA 1910.269 requirements for medium-voltage switching and clearances, in addition to NFPA 70E and LOTO.
- Proficiency with common electrical test instruments such as multimeters, meggers, and ammeters.
- Demonstrated leadership skills with a minimum of 5 years in a lead or foreman position plus 10 years of overall field experience.
- Ability to lift more than 50 pounds, work at heights, operate in confined spaces, and perform outdoor work in all weather conditions.
- Willingness to work in an hourly position with overtime, including nights, weekends, and extended shifts during construction and energization periods.
- Ability and willingness to travel 80% or more on a rotational basis to various construction sites, with per diem and/or housing provided while on site.
Additional Skills & Qualifications
- Experience with industrial and data-center construction or commissioning environments, focusing on new-build projects.
- Comfort with extensive travel, rotational assignments, and working away from home for extended periods.
- Strong blueprint reading skills and familiarity with electrical one-line diagrams and construction documentation.
- Ability to supervise and mentor crew members, promoting safe work practices and high-quality workmanship.
- Experience supporting hipot and VLF testing of medium-voltage systems.
- Familiarity with campus medium-voltage systems in the 12.47 kV, 13.8 kV, and 34.5 kV classes.
- Adaptability to fast-paced construction schedules and changing project priorities.
- Strong problem-solving skills and the ability to troubleshoot electrical issues in the field.
- Comfort working in a construction and commissioning environment rather than a maintenance or operating-plant setting.
