Job Summary:

The Campus Groundskeeper is responsible for maintaining the District\'s grounds, athletic fields, and outdoor facilities to provide a safe, clean, and attractive environment that supports the educational process. This position performs a variety of grounds maintenance tasks, including landscape care, irrigation, erosion prevention, and preparation of outdoor areas for school assemblies, events, and recreational activities. The Campus Groundskeeper helps ensure that all campus grounds are well-maintained, functional, and aesthetically appealing for students, staff, and visitors.

Essential Job Functions:

• Apply approved herbicides and pesticides to control insects and weeds in accordance with established procedures and safety regulations.
• Assist with trash collection and disposal to maintain clean and sanitary campus facilities.
• Attend staff meetings, in-service trainings, workshops, and other professional development activities to obtain information and skills necessary to perform assigned duties.
• Clean landscaped areas and related grounds, including storm drains, athletic fields, and littered areas, to prevent flooding and eliminate safety hazards.
• Coordinate with site administration and athletic coaches to schedule and perform routine grounds maintenance and prepare facilities for school events and athletic activities.
• Maintain and service groundskeeping equipment, including mowers, edgers, trimmers, and blowers, to ensure equipment is safe, operational, and available for use.
• Plant and maintain a variety of landscaping materials, including lawns, shrubs, trees, flowers, and other vegetation, to enhance campus appearance and prevent erosion.
• Prepare campus grounds for daily operations by ensuring outdoor areas are clean, safe, and free of hazards.
• Prepare and maintain grounds and athletic fields by fertilizing soil, maintaining courtyards and flower beds, chalking athletic fields, painting field striping, and performing other related tasks to provide safe and attractive areas for school assemblies, recreational activities, and athletic events.
• Inspect, maintain, and repair irrigation systems and components, including valves, wiring, timers, switches, and sprinkler heads, to ensure proper operation.
• Request materials, supplies, equipment, and additional support as needed to complete assignments efficiently and in a timely manner.
• Respond to immediate safety and operational concerns, including facility damage, vandalism, equipment malfunctions, and alarms, by taking appropriate corrective action or notifying the appropriate personnel.
• Transport tools, equipment, supplies, athletic equipment, and groundskeeping materials to various work locations as needed.
• Wash or clean exterior building surfaces, sidewalks, and other outdoor areas as needed to maintain a clean, safe, and well-maintained campus environment.
• Performs other related duties as assigned for the purpose of ensuring the efficient and effective functioning of the work unit.

Skills

• Ability to safely operate grounds maintenance equipment, including tractors, mowers, weed trimmers (weed whips), hand tools, and power tools.
• Ability to perform multiple tasks efficiently while adapting to changing job requirements.
• Ability to follow established safety practices and procedures.
• Ability to perform routine grounds ma ntenance and landscaping tasks.

Knowledge

• Knowledge of safe work practices and procedures related to grounds maintenance.
• Knowledge of landscaping methods, including the care and maintenance of lawns, trees, shrubs, plants, and irrigation systems.
• Ability to read, understand, and follow written and verbal instructions.
• Basic knowledge of mathematics, including algebra and geometry, as needed to perform job duties.
