Original job description

Mechanical, Piping, General Area Walkdown Engineer Play an integral role in ensuring mechanical, piping, and general area walkdowns are accurately documented and verified to support safe operations, maintenance activities, regulatory compliance, and future capital projects. As a Mechanical, Piping, General Area Walkdown Engineer, you will serve as a critical bridge between design, construction, commissioning, and operations by validating field installations, identifying discrepancies, and supporting the development of accurate as-built documentation. This highly technical, field-focused position provides the opportunity to work directly within an industrial facility, verifying actual field conditions against engineering and construction documentation. Your attention to detail, technical expertise, and commitment to accuracy will directly support facility safety, operational integrity, maintainability, and long-term asset management. Purpose of the role The Mechanical, Piping, General Area Walkdown Engineer is responsible for providing field engineering and technical support following construction activities to ensure mechanical equipment, piping systems, heat recovery steam generators (HRSGs), ducting, vendor equipment, rotating equipment, pumps, air-cooled equipment, and related systems are accurately reflected in engineering documentation and as-built records. Acting as a key field resource, you will conduct detailed system and area walkdowns, verify installations against issued-for-construction (IFC) drawings and other approved documentation, identify discrepancies, and develop clear field markups and redlines that support accurate final engineering records. Working closely with construction, commissioning, engineering, operations, maintenance, and design teams, you will help ensure facility documentation reflects actual installed conditions and provides a reliable technical foundation for ongoing operations, maintenance, reliability programs, and future project development.

You will be responsible for:

  • Conducting detailed field walkdowns of mechanical equipment, piping systems, HRSGs, ducting, vendor equipment, rotating equipment, pumps, air-cooled equipment, and associated infrastructure.
  • Verifying installed conditions against IFC drawings, P&IDs, general arrangement drawings, vendor documentation, equipment drawings, specifications, and other applicable engineering deliverables.
  • Documenting actual field conditions and identifying discrepancies between engineering documentation and installed configurations.
  • Producing clear, accurate drawing markups and redlines that reflect as-built equipment, piping, and facility conditions.
  • Supporting the development and verification of final as-built documentation for long-term facility use.
  • Reviewing engineering drawings and technical documentation prior to walkdowns to establish field verification requirements and priorities.
  • Identifying potential safety concerns, operability issues, maintenance challenges, accessibility concerns, and engineering discrepancies encountered during field walkdowns.
  • Coordinating with facility operations and maintenance personnel to validate equipment configurations, system conditions, and operational requirements.
  • Collaborating with engineering, construction, commissioning, and project teams to resolve technical and documentation discrepancies.
  • Coordinating with site engineering personnel to communicate field findings, redlines, discrepancies, and as-built information for incorporation into final engineering deliverables.
  • Maintaining accurate and traceable records of field observations, walkdown documentation, drawing markups, and engineering updates.
  • Providing project and engineering teams with reliable technical information regarding existing facility conditions and installed equipment.
  • Supporting construction readiness, system turnover verification, operational readiness, and facility documentation improvement activities.
  • Supporting interdisciplinary walkdowns where mechanical or piping systems interface with structural, electrical, instrumentation, controls, or other facility systems.
  • Identifying field conditions that require further technical evaluation and coordinating their resolution with the appropriate engineering or project stakeholders.
  • Communicating findings, recommendations, outstanding items, and technical concerns clearly to stakeholders at all levels of the project.
  • Promoting safe work practices and ensuring field activities comply with applicable HSE requirements and site procedures.
  • Supporting continuous improvement initiatives that enhance documentation accuracy, engineering quality, asset information, and operational excellence.
