Workers will perform a variety of packing shed and agricultural equipment operation duties to support onion processing and storage operations. ## Essential Duties and Responsibilities - Receive, handle, and store onions in bulk bins and approved storage containers. - Move, organize, stack, and position onion bins within storage facilities. - Load and unload onions, bins, pallets, and packing materials using hand carts, forklifts, and other material-handling equipment. - Operate and monitor onion packing line equipment to maintain proper product flow. - Inspect onions for quality, including identifying and removing damaged, diseased, decayed, misshapen, undersized, or otherwise unacceptable product. - Sort onions according to grade, size, color, and quality standards. - Weigh, count, bag, label, pack, seal, stack, palletize, and prepare onions for storage and shipment. - Maintain accurate product counts and lot identification during packing and shipping activities. - Stage and rotate storage bins to support grading, packing, and shipping operations. - Inspect, clean, and maintain bins, pallets, totes, and agricultural containers. - Perform routine cleaning and sanitation of packing equipment and work areas. - Report equipment issues and perform minor adjustments or routine maintenance on packing line equipment, including belts, rollers, conveyors, and related components. - Operate farm vehicles and non-CDL trucks for short-distance transport of onions between storage areas and the packing shed. - Perform other duties related to onion handling, packing, storage, and shipment as assigned. ## Equipment Operation Responsibilities Workers may operate forklifts, packing equipment, and other agricultural material-handling equipment. Workers must safely operate equipment, follow supervisor instructions, and comply with all workplace safety procedures. ## Minimum Qualifications - No formal education requirement. - At least 2 months of experience with similar agricultural equipment operation or related agricultural packing duties preferred. - Valid drivers license required. - Ability to safely operate and work around agricultural equipment. - Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced agricultural environment. - Ability to stand for extended periods and perform repetitive tasks. - Ability to lift and stack onion bags weighing up to 60 pounds. - Ability to work in varying weather conditions, including cold temperatures, freezing conditions, high humidity, and temperatures exceeding 100F. ## Working Conditions - Work is performed primarily in onion storage and packing facilities. - Employees may work on concrete surfaces and perform physically demanding tasks for extended periods. - Work schedules may vary due to weather, crop conditions, customer requirements, and seasonal production needs. - Workers must be available to work throughout the full employment period when work is available. ## Transportation and Housing - Employer-provided housing is available for eligible workers. - Transportation between employer-provided housing and worksites is provided at no cost to eligible workers. - Workers have access to employer-provided transportation for necessary errands such as groceries and banking. ## Safety Requirements - Employees must follow all safety policies and wear required personal protective equipment. - Employees must attend workplace orientation and safety training. - Drug-free workplac policies apply. - Employees must report injuries, equipment issues, and unsafe conditions immediately.
