CDL Driver-Refuse Truck Operator

Job Summary:

The Refuse Truck Operator operates the refuse truck on pre-determined routes, controlling the truck’s mechanical arms or similar equipment to collect refuse receptacles and deposit their contents in the truck.

Duties/ Responsibilities:

• Operates refuse truck on pre-determined route; safely controls the mechanical arms as required to collect receptacles and deposit their contents in the truck.
• Completes routes efficiently and within a reasonable timeframe.
• Performs pre-operation and post-operation safety checks.
• Refuels truck and performs basic maintenance.
• Facilitates repairs and service on truck by appropriate mechanics.
• Transports refuse to proper location for processing and/or disposal.
• Notifies dispatcher or manager of delays, unsafe sites, accidents, breakdowns, or other issues.
• Maintains logs of pickup times and daily mileage.
• Performs other related duties as assigned.

Required Skills/Abilities:

• Ability to follow pre-determined schedules for all pickup and disposal routes.
• Ability to read and write to understand instructions and maintain written records.
• Ability to safely operate refuse truck and equipment.
• Thorough understanding of safe highway practices and motor vehicle regulations.
• Ability to work with technology including onboard tablet.

Education and Experience:

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• One year experience preferred.

Requirements:

• Must be able to lift up to 50 pounds at times.
• Ability to work and drive in a variety of weather conditions.
• Must be able to work safely while exposed to odors.
• Valid Class A or B Texas driver’s license with current valid medical DOT certificate and have a satisfactory driving record.
