Original job description

Watchtower Security is the nation's leading provider of all-inclusive, fully managed video surveillance solutions, exclusively dedicated to the multifamily housing industry. For over two decades, we have partnered with property management groups across the nation, empowering them to enhance safety, deter crime, and provide peace of mind to their communities.

As a rapidly growing and dynamic organization, we pride ourselves on a fast-paced, collaborative environment where innovation, critical thinking, and a commitment to excellence drive our success. We are seeking passionate individuals eager to contribute to a team that values strong communication, attention to detail, and a shared dedication to making a tangible difference in community security.

In this role, you will lead day-to-day accounting operations, working directly with the CFO to strengthen financial reporting, develop the accounting team, and establish processes that support a growing business. You will manage an established team of three accounting professionals, balancing effective delegation with hands-on support when needed. This is an opportunity for a forward-thinking accounting leader to improve workflows, expand automation, and help guide the planned transition from QuickBooks Online to a mid-market ERP system within the next year.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Team Leadership & Development
  • Manage, mentor, and develop a three-person accounting team consisting of a General Accountant, AP Specialist, and AP Clerk.
  • Establish clear responsibilities, performance expectations, and accountability while supporting professional growth and continuous improvement.
  • Delegate daily transactional responsibilities effectively and provide hands-on support during peak periods or when additional guidance is needed.
  • Identify staffing and skill gaps as transaction volumes increase and partner with the CFO to expand the team.
  • Accounting Operations & Financial Reporting
  • Oversee daily accounting operations, including accounts receivable, accounts payable, general ledger activity, and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Lead month-end and year-end close processes, improving efficiency while ensuring timely and accurate financial statements for CFO review.
  • Review account balances, investigate discrepancies, and analyze variances to support accurate reporting and informed decisions.
  • Audit Management & Internal Controls
  • Manage the annual financial audit from preparation through completion, serving as the primary contact for external auditors.
  • Coordinate audit requests, prepare year-end schedules and supporting documentation, and resolve outstanding items.
  • Establish and maintain internal controls and accounting policies that safeguard company assets and support compliance with generally accepted accounting principles (GAAP).
  • Balance appropriate financial oversight with efficient daily operations.
  • ERP Implementation & System Optimization
  • Partner with the CFO to evaluate, select, and implement a mid-market financial or ERP system within the next 12 months.
  • Document existing QuickBooks Online data, workflows, and reporting requirements to support system configuration and data migration.
  • Support data validation, testing, team training, and the transition to the new system.
  • Evaluate and integrate automation tools that improve invoicing and billing for Watchtower’s subscription-based multifamily client model.
  • Process Improvement & Automation
  • Evaluate accounts receivable, accounts payable, and other transactional accounting workflows to identify bottlenecks, reduce manual entry, and improve accuracy.
  • Implement repeatable processes and automation that allow the accounting function to support higher transaction volumes as the company grows.
  • Partner with the CFO and relevant departments to prioritize improvements, document procedures, and support adoption of new processes.

Qualifications & Skills:

  • Education & Experience
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Five or more years of progressive accounting experience, including at least two years of direct people management experience.
  • Demonstrated experience leading or substantially contributing to successful annual financial audits.
  • Experience overseeing accounting operations, financial reporting, month-end close, and internal controls.
  • Technical & Functional Skills
  • Strong knowledge of GAAP, financial statement preparation, account reconciliations, and audit requirements.
  • Experience with mid-market ERP systems such as NetSuite, Sage Intacct, Microsoft Dynamics, or Acumatica.
  • Ability to evaluate accounting workflows, identify automation opportunities, and implement improvements that support business growth.
  • Ability to translate accounting requirements into documented processes and system needs.
  • Core Competencies
  • Ability to develop employees, delegate effectively, and provide hands-on accounting support when needed.
  • Strong attention to detail and the ability to investigate discrepancies and maintain accurate financial records.
  • Ability to manage competing priorities and meet reporting, close, and audit deadlines.
  • Clear communication skills and the ability to work effectively with the CFO, accounting team, external auditors, and department leaders.
  • Willingness to question existing processes, recommend practical improvements, and guide a team through change.
  • Preferred Experience
  • CPA or CMA certification.
  • Experience with QuickBooks Online.
  • Experience supporting an ERP implementation or financial system migration.
  • Experience with subscription-based, recurring revenue, or managed service business models.
