Design Engineer II - Productivity and Sustainability
At WARN Industries, engineering is not just about designing a product. It is about figuring out how to build it better. We’re looking for a Design Engineer - Productivity and Sustainability who can turn engineering expertise into real, measurable improvements across our products and manufacturing operations. This role is focused on driving productivity, manufacturability, cost, quality, and sustainability through smart engineering solutions, process optimization, waste reduction, and responsible use of materials and resources. If you’re the kind of engineer who looks at a product or process and immediately starts thinking, “There’s a better way to do this,” this could be your kind of role.
What You'll Do
- Drive improvements in productivity, manufacturability, cost, quality, and sustainability through effective engineering solutions.
- Identify and implement opportunities to improve manufacturing productivity through process optimization, automation, tooling, equipment, workflow improvements, and elimination of non-value-added activities.
- Develop and support measurable improvements in manufacturing capacity, labor efficiency, equipment utilization, material utilization, and process performance.
- Apply continuous-improvement and data-driven problem-solving methods to establish baselines, identify opportunities, quantify improvements, and verify results.
- Evaluate engineering solutions to reduce material usage, scrap, rework, energy consumption, and other forms of waste while maintaining product safety, quality, performance, and customer requirements.
- Incorporate manufacturability, productivity, sustainability, total cost, and long-term operational impact into product and production-process design decisions.
- Design and implement new or modified tooling, fixtures, machinery, manufacturing processes, and technologies.
- Identify root causes of engineering and manufacturing problems and develop effective corrective actions.
- Research, test, and evaluate products for design, performance, and failure modes.
- Collaborate with engineering teams, manufacturing, suppliers, customers, and other WARN functional groups to bring improvements from concept to the shop floor.
- Support multiple engineering projects and priorities in a fast-moving manufacturing environment.
What You'll Bring
- Ability to identify, evaluate, and implement engineering solutions that improve productivity, manufacturing efficiency, and cost effectiveness.
- Strong understanding of continuous improvement, waste reduction, process optimization, manufacturability, and data-driven problem solving.
- Ability to incorporate practical sustainability considerations into engineering decisions, including material utilization, scrap reduction, energy/resource efficiency, manufacturability, and product lifecycle considerations.
- Product design and development experience, preferably with high-volume consumer products.
- Working knowledge of CAD, preferably NX and/or SolidWorks.
- Working knowledge of engineering and quality tools including SPC, GD&T, FMEA, and DFA/M.
- Working knowledge of FEA is preferred.
- Familiarity with rapid prototyping techniques is preferred.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with the ability to take an improvement from an idea to a measurable result.
- Ability to work both independently and collaboratively in an environment where engineering gets hands-on with manufacturing.
Required Education and Experience
- Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering, Manufacturing Engineering, or a related engineering discipline required.
- Two or more years of professional experience.
- Two or more years of hands-on engineering or product design experience required.
- Two or more years of experience in a high-volume manufacturing environment preferred.
