Original job description
Wallace Design Collective is currently seeking a talented, self-motivated licensed Forensic Structural Engineer to join our team in Tulsa.
In this position, you will provide comprehensive structural forensic and design engineering services across commercial facilities, multi-story educational buildings (such as 4-story schools), retail spaces, and specialized forensic investigations. You will often be called to assess damaged structures in complex environments such as post-fire scenes, vehicular impacts, structural failures, and designated "unsafe zones” to conduct investigations, determine structural integrity, and engineer practical remediation solutions.
Annual Base Salary: $98,000 – $115,000
Additional benefits include medical plans, dental, vision, employee life insurance, 401(k), Flexible Spending Accounts, paid time off, paid holidays and tuition reimbursement.
Requirements
Requirements for this position are as follows:
Responsibilities
- Field Forensic Investigations & Disaster Response: Conduct on-site forensic evaluations in damaged buildings, including assessments following fires, vehicular impacts, collapses, or other structural distress within active or "unsafe zones".
- Structural Analysis & Design: Perform structural calculations and design framing systems and foundations using common structural analysis and engineering modeling software.
- Multi-Material Design: Engineer and detail solutions across a broad range of building materials, including structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry/CMU, and wood framing (post-tensioned concrete experience is a plus).
- Contract Documents & BIM Coordination: Prepare, coordinate, and integrate structural design into contract documents; extract critical design information from architectural BIM models (Revit) and perform basic Revit drafting.
- Code Compliance & Safety: Verify that all analytical models, repair recommendations, and designs strictly adhere to relevant safety standards and local/national building codes.
- Construction Administration & Site Review: Review drawings, process submittals, and conduct job site visits to observe remediation and construction progress.
- Interdisciplinary & Client Coordination: Collaborate directly with structural project managers, multi-discipline teams, municipal reviewers, and clients to clearly communicate complex engineering findings.
Qualifications
- Experience: 5+ years of professional experience in structural building design, structural analysis, and/or forensics.
- Education: Bachelor of Science degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering is required; a master’s degree in Structural Engineering is preferred.
- Licensure: Licensed Professional Engineer (PE) in the state of Oklahoma or the immediate ability to obtain licensure by comity.
- Technical Skills: Proven experience designing with structural steel, reinforced concrete, masonry, and wood. Proficient use of structural analysis software and basic familiarity with Revit drafting and BIM navigation.
- Disaster / Forensic Expertise: Demonstrated background or strong interest in collapse investigations, disaster response, and forensic failure analysis.
- Certifications (Preferred / Plus): Possession of relevant specialized credentials, including SE, CWI, IIBEC certifications (RRO, RRC), or ICC inspector certifications.
- Professional Attributes: High attention to detail, strong technical writing, responsible engineering judgment, and the flexibility to adapt to changing site conditions. Backgrounds in athletics or military service are considered a strong cultural plus.
