We instill an environment where employees feel engaged, satisfied and able to contribute their unique skills and talents while living and working as their authentic selves. We provide extensive opportunities for personal and professional development, building both employee competence and organizational capability to fuel exceptional performance through an inclusive environment both now and in the future.

Vizient Intern Program Overview:

This program is designed to foster a beneficial relationship and provide growth opportunities for Vizient, our employees, and collegiate students. Since 2000, our summer intern program has provided college undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral students with practical experience that exposes them to multiple aspects of a career field and the healthcare industry. This full-time, paid intern program offers an opportunity to accelerate academic learning, apply classroom knowledge, and introduce students to a professional setting. Interns are assigned a supervisor to mentor/develop their business skills, as well as monitor their work experiences. Interns are integral members of the company’s team, setting goals, working toward deadlines, and actively participating in community service projects.

The program requires the intern to commit to 10 weeks of participation in all formal training, mentoring, on-the-job learning, and opportunities to interact with senior leaders.

  • Program starts June 1, 2027, and ends August 6, 2027
  • Pay rate: $25 per hour.

About the team and role The Strategy Managed Services team partners with clients to support enterprise, service line, and network-level planning. The team combines healthcare market intelligence, quantitative analysis, and strategic thinking to help clients better understand growth opportunities, access needs, competitive dynamics, and care delivery priorities.

As an intern, you will support active client and internal initiatives by conducting focused research and analysis, organizing findings, and contributing to clear, client-ready deliverables. Your primary work will center on evaluating healthcare markets and translating data into practical insights that help project teams answer strategic questions.

What You’ll Do

  • Support a defined healthcare strategy project, such as a market assessment, service line growth analysis, or ambulatory network evaluation.
  • Gather, organize, and validate data to support project analyses.
  • Conduct quantitative and qualitative analyses related to market demand, competitive positioning, access, utilization, and growth opportunities.
  • Partner with team members to advance project objectives and meet agreed-upon timelines.
  • Develop clear charts, summaries, and presentation materials that communicate key findings and the “so what” for project teams and stakeholders.
  • Document analytic approaches, assumptions, data sources, and open questions to support high-quality, reproducible work.
  • Support the team’s growth and scalability by helping develop reusable templates, standardized analyses, documentation, and efficient reporting processes.

What You’ll Learn

  • How healthcare organizations use market, utilization, claims, and strategic planning information to make enterprise and service line decisions.
  • How to structure market assessments using Excel, Tableau, Power BI, PowerPoint, and Vizient/Sg2 data and planning methodologies.
  • How strategy, analytics, and client delivery teams work together to move from a business question to an evidence-based insight.
  • How to strengthen executive communication, data storytelling, project management, and stakeholder presentation skills.

Qualifications

  • Currently pursuing a bachelor’s or master’s degree in business, analytics, economics, public health, healthcare administration, or a related field.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and experience with Tableau, Power BI, or a similar data visualization tool, including organizing data and creating clear charts or dashboards.
  • Relevant coursework or project experience in data analysis, statistics, market research, strategy, finance, or healthcare.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to synthesize quantitative and qualitative information into clear takeaways.
  • Demonstrated written and verbal communication skills, attention to detail, and interest in healthcare strategy and analytics.
  • Must be based in Chicago and available to work from the Chicago office for the full 10-week internship program (3x a week in the office).
