Original job description

DevOps Engineer I Location: Durham, NC (Hybrid)

ABOUT US

Victra is Verizon’s largest premium retailer in the United States. We thrive on collaboration, innovation, and performance. Our mission is to “Connect technology to life in a trustworthy, fun, and profitable way”. We work closely with Verizon and our brand partners to deliver exceptional product offerings, promotions, and campaigns that drive in-store traffic and revenue.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The DevOps Engineer I is an entry-level contributor on the Cloud Platform & DevOps team, supporting the delivery pipelines, cloud environments, and automation that application teams rely on to ship software. Working under the direction of senior engineers, this role supports one to two application teams or a defined slice of the delivery platform, executes well-scoped tasks and tickets typically sized in hours to days, and implements changes within existing patterns, escalating anything that requires design or standards decisions. This role is designed for someone early in their career who is motivated to become a proficient cloud DevOps engineer. The DevOps Engineer I is expected to be curious, coachable, and reliable, learning the team’s tools and standards and growing into greater responsibility over time. Success in this role reflects Victra's core leadership principles including: Results Driven, Relationship Building, Change Management, Customer Focus, and Talent Management.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

Execute scoped changes to existing CI/CD pipelines, including YAML edits, variable updates, and environment wiring, under the direction of senior engineers. [Results Driven]
Investigate and triage failed builds, deployments, and release pipelines; resolve routine failures and escalate complex issues with clear context. [Results Driven]
Fulfill developer requests for pipeline access, environment configuration, and standard tooling setup. [Customer Focus]
Monitor assigned pipelines and deployments and alert the team to anomalies. [Results Driven]
Update runbooks, README files, and documentation as pipelines and processes change. [Talent Management]
Participate in code reviews, primarily to learn the codebase and receive feedback as an author. [Relationship Building]
Pair with senior engineers to learn Azure services, Infrastructure as Code, and DevOps practices. [Relationship Building]
Pursue certification and skill development aligned with the role’s growth path. [Talent Management]

WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR:

Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
0–2 years of professional experience in DevOps, cloud, software development, IT support, or a related technical role.
Foundational understanding of at least one major cloud platform (Azure preferred; AWS or GCP accepted).
Working knowledge of Git, including commits, branches, and pull requests.
Some scripting experience in PowerShell, Bash, or Python.
Basic understanding of what a CI/CD pipeline is and what it does.
Strong written and verbal communication skills. [Relationship Building]
Curiosity to read documentation, build labs, and understand how things actually work. [Change Management]
Coachability, with an openness to seeing feedback as a learning opportunity rather than a judgment. [Relationship Building]
Clear communication when asking for help, including what you tried, what you saw, and what you expected. [Relationship Building]
Attention to detail, verifying your work before calling it done. [Results Driven]
Dependability with assigned tasks and a commitment to finishing what you start. [Results Driven]

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Hands-on Azure experience, whether professional, academic, or through personal projects.
Exposure to Azure DevOps, GitHub Actions, Jenkins, or a similar CI/CD platform.
Familiarity with Infrastructure as Code concepts.
Exposure to Docker and containerization basics.
AZ-900 (Azure Fundamentals) certification, or progress toward it.

WHY JOIN US?

Paid training and career development opportunities.
Comprehensive health, dental, and vision insurance.
401k retirement plan.
Tuition reimbursement.
Employee discounts on Verizon services.
Referral bonuses.
Career pathing opportunities.

EQUAL OPPORTUNITY EMPLOYER

We're proud to be an equal opportunity employer - and celebrate our employees' differences, regardless of race, color, religion, gender, sexual orientation, gender identity, national origin, age, disability, or Veteran status. Different makes us better.
