Veterans Community Project (VCP) Overview VCP was founded in Kansas City, Missouri, in 2016 by a group of combat Veterans shaped by their military service and began with a determination to do better for Veterans in need. Today, we’re growing nationwide to serve more Veterans everywhere, ensuring no one is left behind. Our founders’ solution was simple: provide Veterans experiencing homelessness with a home of their own and wraparound case management services that leverage the support of the community to not only get them back on their feet, but ensure they continue standing. Our proven model has an 85% success rate at getting Veterans back on their feet. The Team We, the team members and co-founders of VCP, operate with innovation, entrepreneurism, and grit in our mission to serve those who served. We move with swift, bold action, driven by purpose. We believe in collaboration, community, compassion, and above all, serving Veterans with dignity and respect. We serve all Veterans with that ethos - regardless of length or type of service, or discharge status. The Role The Project Accountant is responsible for the accounting, financial reporting, and cost tracking of capital construction and facility projects, ensuring accurate recording of project costs, compliance with GAAP and funder requirements, and effective stewardship of restricted and unrestricted capital funds from project inception through closeout. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Reconcile project budgets to actual expenditures and prepare variance analyses for finance leadership and the board.
Review and process contractor/vendor invoices, change orders, and pay applications.
Communicate key milestones to appropriate team members to ensure proper treatment for accounting and risk management.

Support annual audits (including Single Audit if federal funds are involved) and maintain strong internal controls.
Monitor compliance with grant agreements, government contracts, and capital campaign gift agreements tied to funding sources.
Coordinate with development/fundraising staff on capital campaign pledge tracking and fund availability.
Coordinate with project managers and facilities staff on budget status and forecasting.
Assist with capital budget development and multi-year capital improvement planning.
Ensure proper accounting treatment of capitalized vs. expensed costs in accordance with FASB nonprofit standards (ASC 958).
Foster relationships with other departments at VCP to build a cooperative and effective program and promote a culture of philanthropy.
Be able to share the VCP story and Mission Statement.

Competencies and Areas of Expertise should Include:

Familiarity with fixed asset systems and donor-restricted fund tracking is preferred.
Experience with restricted fund accounting and grant compliance (OMB Uniform Guidance a plus) preferred.
Proficiency with accounting software (e.g., Blackbaud Financial Edge, Sage Intacct, MIP) and Excel

Must possess intellectual curiosity and a desire to continuously learn and grow as well as curiosity to understand how your job impacts the work of others. Self-motivated to set, attain, and surpass goals, with minimal supervision.
Commitment to maintain confidentiality of information, records, and materials.
Provide excellent customer service to internal and external constituents. Cross department collaboration is integral to the success of the position.
