Original job description
Company Description
Verustruct is developing a suite of robotic construction technologies to automate the building of affordable, sustainable, safe, and aesthetically appealing housing. The company’s mission is to help close the U.S. housing gap of 4.5 million homes by transforming how residential structures are designed and built. Verustruct focuses on integrating advanced robotics, automation, and novel construction methods into practical, scalable solutions. Team members collaborate across disciplines to bring next-generation construction systems from concept to field deployment, with a strong emphasis on real-world impact and long-term sustainability.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Verustruct is working to build the operating system for the future of affordable construction. As a senior software engineer on the team, you will lead the development of Verustruct's software, an accessible platform which converts architectural designs into design-optimized construction plans for robotic systems.
You'll take ownership of the existing codebase and work with mechanical, electrical, robotics, and materials engineers to connect our slicer and simulation technology to the physical machine interfaces. You'll also develop tools that help the Verustruct team collaborate with customers throughout the design-build process.
WHAT YOU'LL DO
- Own and improve the existing software codebase, including architecture, testing, documentation, and the handoff of externally developed software.
- Develop and scale the multi-tenant platform: backend services, APIs, data models, and the pipeline that carries a design from configuration to machine output.
- Develop geometry-processing and slicing algorithms that convert building models into layers and machine-compatible toolpaths.
- Build and integrate simulations of construction sequences, machine movement, material usage, and estimated build time.
- Develop interfaces between building configuration, slicing, simulation, visualization, and robotic control systems.
- Work with robotics and hardware engineers to test software outputs against machine constraints and physical test results.
- Build interactive 3D tools for engineers and customers to inspect designs, toolpaths, and simulated construction.
- Diagnose performance issues, integration failures, and differences between simulated and observed machine behavior.
- Set code review, automated testing, and release practices; guide junior software engineers as the team grows.
WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 5+ years developing and maintaining complex software systems, including technical ownership of an existing codebase.
- Strong proficiency in Python and Javascript/TypeScript. C++ or comparable languages is a plus.
- Experience with 3D geometry processing, computational geometry, CAD/CAM, or comparable spatial algorithms.
- Experience developing full-stack applications across backend services, APIs, databases, and modern frontend frameworks such as React.
- Experience with automated testing, code review, CI/CD, and software integration.
- Ability to work with hardware and controls engineers to define and validate software-to-machine interfaces.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Experience with slicing engines, toolpath generation, CNC, additive manufacturing, or robotic fabrication.
- Experience building or integrating engineering simulations and validating them against physical results.
- Experience with interactive 3D graphics on the web (Three.js, WebGL, React Three Fiber).
- Experience with multi-tenant SaaS architecture, including tenancy, permissions, and data isolation.
- Experience with robot kinematics, coordinate transforms, collision detection, or motion planning.
- Familiarity with ROS 2, OpenCASCADE, CGAL, or similar robotics and geometry tools.
- Experience with machine controllers, hardware-in-the-loop testing, or Linux-based engineering systems.
- Experience leading software architecture decisions.
