Original job description

Company Description VERSANT (Nasdaq: VSNT) is an industry-changing media and entertainment business and home to trusted brands that shape culture, inform audiences, and build lasting connections. It operates across four core markets: political news and opinion, business news and personal finance, golf, and sports and genre entertainment. These markets are served through a powerful portfolio of iconic and innovative brands, including CNBC, MS NOW, USA Network, Golf Channel, Oxygen, E!, SYFY, and Versant's sports division USA Sports, along with complementary digital assets including Fandango, Rotten Tomatoes, GolfNow and GolfPass.

Job Description

Summary/Objective Full Swing's design practice sits inside a Design Center of Excellence, with designers embedded directly in our product pods. This role will be placed into one of those pods based on where the team's needs are greatest, owning design for the companion apps that pair with our simulators and connected hardware, covering setup, calibration, live sessions, and performance tracking. As our hardware ecosystem grows, these apps grow with it, and design is what keeps that growing complexity feeling simple to the athletes and golfers using it. You will own scoped, end-to-end design work for key app feature areas: turning ambiguous problems into clear user flows and polished UI, and partnering with Product and Engineering from concept through ship. You are measured on whether the features you design hold up for real users in real sessions, not on how clean the mockups look in isolation. Primary Functions

Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential

functions.

  • End-to-end design for mobile app features, from problem framing and user flows through high-fidelity UI and developer handoff.
  • Detailed user flows and prototypes in Figma that clearly communicate logic, edge cases, and states to engineering.
  • Direct partnership with Product Managers and Engineers from early discovery through launch, balancing user needs, technical constraints, and business goals.
  • Contributions to a shared design system, keeping patterns and components consistent across iOS and Android.
  • Design decisions validated and iterated using real user research, analytics, and usability testing, not instinct alone.
  • Clear presentation of design rationale to stakeholders, including leadership, incorporating feedback without losing the underlying user problem.
  • Participation in critique with other designers, sharing patterns and systems thinking across the broader product.
  • Accessible mobile design, applying platform accessibility standards across interaction, visual hierarchy, typography, color, and touch targets.
  • Partnership with engineers through implementation and QA, so shipped experiences match intended behavior and edge-case handling, not just the handoff mockup.

Qualifications

Required Education, Experience & Skills

  • 3+ years of product design experience shipping consumer or professional mobile applications for iOS and/or Android
  • A portfolio that demonstrates end-to-end ownership of shipped product work, including problem
  • framing, user flows, wireframes, high-fidelity UI, prototypes, and iteration informed by user feedback or product data
  • Proficiency in Figma, including building and maintaining detailed user flows, component libraries, and interactive prototypes
  • Solid understanding of iOS and Android design guidelines (Human Interface Guidelines / Material
  • Design) and how they diverge
  • Demonstrated ability to work in ambiguity and move quickly in a fast-paced environment - you're comfortable defining the problem, not just solving one that's handed to you
  • Experience working directly with engineers through implementation and QA, not just handoff
  • Clear communicator who can articulate design decisions to both design and non-design audiences

Preferred Education, Experience & Skills

  • Experience designing connected hardware/software experiences, including Bluetooth/BLE pairing, device onboarding, setup, calibration, live-session, or device-status flows
  • Experience contributing to, auditing, or scaling a component library or design system
  • Experience writing or collaborating closely on UX copy/microcopy
  • Experience planning or supporting user interviews, usability tests, and synthesis of findings into
  • product decisions
  • Comfortable incorporating AI tools into your design workflow (e.g., Figma AI, AI-assisted prototyping) to move faster without cutting corners
  • Interest or background in sports, fitness, or performance-tracking products

Portfolio Requirements

Please include a portfolio with 2–3 case studies that demonstrate your direct contribution to shipped mobile

product work. We’d like to understand:

  • The user problem and product context
  • Your role, scope, and cross-functional partners
  • How you explored workflows, states, and edge cases
  • Key design decisions and tradeoffs
  • Your final interface and prototype work
  • What shipped and what you learned after launch

If work is confidential, password-protected case studies are welcome.

Salary Range: $120,000-$138,000
