Customer Service & Inside Sales Representative
Location: Greenwood, IN Schedule: Monday–Friday, 8:00 AM–5:00 PM Work Arrangement: Onsite Compensation: $23–$26/hour, with potential flexibility based on experience
About the Opportunity Our client, an established industrial distribution company in Greenwood, is seeking a Customer Service & Inside Sales Representative to join its team. This is a great opportunity for someone who enjoys building customer relationships, solving problems, and taking a proactive approach to supporting and growing existing accounts.
While customer service and order processing are key components of the position, this is not strictly a reactive customer service role. The person in this position will also partner closely with outside sales representatives, follow up on quotes, reconnect with customers who have not purchased recently, and identify opportunities to generate additional business.
The company has an experienced, long-tenured team and is adding this position to provide additional support as business needs have grown.
What You’ll Do
- Serve as a primary point of contact for customers and provide responsive, high-quality service.
- Process customer orders accurately and efficiently.
- Prepare customer quotes and coordinate internally to obtain product pricing, availability, and lead times.
- Proactively follow up on outstanding quotes and orders.
- Contact existing and inactive customers to understand current needs and identify additional sales opportunities.
- Review customer purchasing history and provide relevant product information and suggestions.
- Support assigned outside sales representatives with their customers, quotes, and order-processing needs.
- Develop strong knowledge of customer accounts, requirements, and unique situations.
- Learn the company’s industrial products and applications to better assist customers.
- Maintain accurate customer and order information within ERP and CRM systems.
- Utilize vendor portals to research products, pricing, availability, and other information.
- Assist customers with shipment questions, product issues, troubleshooting, and resolution of service concerns.
- Follow up to ensure customer issues are resolved satisfactorily.
- Collaborate with sales, service, operations, and other internal departments to support customers.
- Communicate relevant customer and sales information to management and the sales team.
What We’re Looking For
- High school diploma with at least 2 years of relevant customer service, inside sales, order management, or account support experience; associate degree or additional education is a plus.
- Experience within industrial distribution, manufacturing, or a related environment is preferred, but not required.
- Previous experience working with quotes, orders, purchase orders, and an ERP or similar business system is strongly preferred.
- Comfortable proactively calling customers and following up on sales opportunities, not just responding to inbound requests.
- Strong customer service and problem-solving skills.
- Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and accurate data-entry skills.
- Ability to work independently while also contributing as part of a collaborative team.
- Positive, professional approach to working with customers and coworkers.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office, including Excel, Word, Outlook, and Teams.
- Willingness and ability to develop working knowledge of technical products and applications.
What Makes Someone Successful Here The strongest candidate will combine a customer-service mindset with a proactive inside-sales approach. You should enjoy helping customers, staying organized, following through on details, and building relationships, while also being comfortable picking up the phone to follow up on quotes or reconnect with customers.
You do not need decades of experience to be successful. The hiring manager is open to someone earlier in their career who has a solid foundation in customer service and is motivated to learn the products and business.
Why Consider This Opportunity?
- Join an experienced team with exceptionally strong employee tenure.
- Work directly with customers while also developing valuable inside-sales and account-management experience.
- Partner closely with established outside sales professionals.
- Learn specialized products within the industrial distribution space.
- Opportunity to develop broad experience across customer service, sales support, quoting, order management, and account development.
By submitting to this position, you are agreeing to be included in our talent pool for future hiring for similarly qualified positions.
