Overview
Working across the globe, V2X builds smart solutions designed to integrate physical and digital infrastructure from base to battlefield. We bring 120 years of successful mission support to improve security, streamline logistics, and enhance readiness. Aligned around a shared purpose, our $3.9B company and 16,000 people work alongside our clients, here and abroad, to tackle their most complex challenges with integrity, respect, responsibility, and professionalism.
As a part of the V2X Ground-Based Radar Development (GBRD) team, we are a part of an exciting opportunity to design and field a Common Radar Back End supporting UEWR, PARCS, COBRA DANE, and AN/FPS 85 radar sites.
Responsibilities
We are seeking a Lead Systems Engineer to join a team of engineers and provide technical leadership across requirements, architecture, integration, test, and fielding for modernization of strategic radar systems across multiple integration laboratories serving operational radar sites.
This position spans the full lifecycle from early requirements (Gate 1) through design and prototyping (Gate 2) to site installation, DT&E/OT&E, and sustainment transition (Gate 3).
Key Responsibilities
- Lead development, decomposition, allocation, and maintenance of system, subsystem, interface, and site-level requirements.
- Define and maintain the overall system architecture in coordination with software, hardware, network, cybersecurity, and specialty engineering leads.
- Maintain requirements traceability from customer objectives and source requirements through design, implementation, verification, and validation.
- Develop system architecture diagrams, interface definitions, functional flows, technical baselines, and design decision documentation.
- Lead technical trade studies and evaluate alternatives based on performance, cost, schedule, risk, supportability, and lifecycle impact.
- Coordinate subsystem integration and ensure hardware, software, network, storage, operating system, and platform components operate as an integrated system.
- Support and oversee laboratory integration, system checkout, site integration, and transition from development environments to operational locations.
- Support and maintain integration strategies, verification plans, validation plans, interface control documentation, and technical review packages.
- Lead technical preparation for System Requirements Review, Preliminary Design Review, Critical Design Review, Test Readiness Review, and other engineering reviews.
- Coordinate technical issue resolution, root-cause analysis, corrective actions, retest, and closure of engineering findings.
- Support developmental and operational test activities, including test planning, readiness assessments, discrepancy resolution, and verification of requirements.
- Ensure system designs account for reliability, availability, maintainability, scalability, redundancy, supportability, and degraded-mode operation.
- Coordinate with cybersecurity personnel to ensure approved security requirements and controls are incorporated into the system design and verification approach.
- Provide technical input to installation procedures, operator and maintainer documentation, training materials, and sustainment planning.
- Identify and communicate technical risks, assumptions, dependencies, constraints, and decisions to program and engineering stakeholders.
Qualifications
EDUCATION/CERTIFICATION:
- Engineering, Mathematics, or related technical discipline and at least 10 years of relevant experience.
- An advanced degree in a related discipline and at least 5 years of relevant experience may be accepted.
- Additional directly relevant systems engineering experience may be considered in place of a degree or generalized experience.
Required Skills:
- Minimum 10 years related experience
- Demonstrated experience leading systems engineering activities for complex hardware and software systems.
- Experience across the systems engineering lifecycle, including requirements development, architecture, interface definition, integration, verification, validation, and transition to operations or sustainment.
- Experience developing and maintaining system and subsystem requirements with bidirectional traceability.
- Experience producing system architecture products, functional diagrams, interface documentation, trade studies, technical baselines, and engineering review materials.
- Hands-on experience supporting laboratory or field integration of complex networked hardware and software systems.
- Experience planning or supporting system verification, validation, test readiness, discrepancy resolution, and corrective-action closure.
- Ability to identify technical risks, evaluate alternatives, make supportable engineering recommendations, and communicate decisions clearly.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, Outlook, and technical collaboration tools.
- Ability to support occasional CONUS, OCONUS site travel.
- U.S. citizenship and an active DoD Secret clearance.
Desired Skills:
- Experience with ground-based radar, missile defense, space surveillance, command-and-control, sensor, or other mission-critical systems.
- Experience with Upgraded Early Warning Radar, Perimeter Acquisition Radar Attack Characterization System, COBRA DANE, AN/FPS-85, or comparable radar systems.
- Experience with Model-Based Systems Engineering tools and methods such as Cameo, Rhapsody, SysML, or equivalent.
- Experience with requirements-management tools such as IBM Engineering Requirements Management DOORS, DOORS Next, Jama, or equivalent.
- Familiarity with Modular Open Systems Approach principles, open architectures, modular interfaces, and Government-owned interface definitions.
- Working knowledge of Linux-based computing platforms.
- Experience with Digital Systems Integration Laboratories, integration test facilities, or lab-to-site transition programs.
- Familiarity with configuration management, technical data packages, engineering change control, and digital engineering environments.
- Experience supporting installation, checkout, acceptance testing, or operational cutover at remote or mission-critical sites.
- Relevant certification such as INCOSE ASEP, CSEP, ESEP, or equivalent systems engineering credential.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience briefing customers, program leadership, and technical review boards.
- Experience leading multidisciplinary technical teams and coordinating work across software, hardware, network, cybersecurity, test, logistics, and operations functions.
