Original job description

Thornton Tomasetti applies engineering and scientific principles to solve the world’s challenges. An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career.

Our Construction Engineering practice works with fabricators, erectors, construction managers, and general contractors to provide connection design, temporary stability analysis, design of structures delegated to the contractor, design of industrial structures, and construction means-and-methods engineering. There will be an emphasis on the development of relationships with current, but also new clients to grow the practices revenue potential. The core areas of focus for growth are providing structural and construction engineering services with a focus on contractor needs for the construction industry.

Your Role As a Structural Project Engineer in our Construction Engineering Practice, you will contribute to structural design, steel connection design, and temporary stability analysis. Your work will include designing steel connections ranging from simple shear connections to complex multi-member nodes with intricate load paths. You will analyze alternate load paths in partially erected structures and design temporary bracing systems to ensure stability during steel erection. You will also support delegated design efforts for contractor-led scopes. If you’re ready to elevate your impact and grow into future project leadership, this is the place to do it.

What You’ll Do

Lead structural analysis and design, with emphasis on detailing steel connections, erection stability, and contractor temporary supports.
Perform temporary stability analyses of partially erected structures and design bracing systems to ensure safe construction.
Lead the planning, coordination, and execution of construction engineering, Advanced Project Delivery (APD) and steel connection design projects.
Coordinate design and detail work with engineering staff, Tekla modelers, as well as other design professionals.
Manage project deliverables and coordinate engineers, modelers, and project staff in preparing drawings, specifications, and other contract documents.
Communicate with clients, contractors, and fabricators to understand project requirements and support successful project execution.
You will contribute to the design of temporary works, steel connections, and construction systems that bring complex structures to life.
You’ll work on real-world engineering challenges where sequencing, constructability, and field constraints matter as much as analysis.
Support project planning, staffing coordination, and execution strategies to meet project goals and delivery schedules.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Civil or Structural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
4+ years of experience delivering complex technical design projects with a minimum of 2 years of experience in the design of steel connections.
Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure, or the ability to obtain a license.
Working knowledge of current industry software such as SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, Risa3-D, PCA Software, Revit, and AutoCAD, with familiarity in Tekla Structures preferred.
