The work you do with our team will directly improve health outcomes by connecting people with the care, pharmacy benefits, and data they need to feel their best. Here, you will find a culture guided by diversity and inclusion, talented peers, comprehensive benefits, and career development opportunities. Come make an impact on the communities we serve as you help us advance health equity on a global scale. Join us to start Caring. Connecting. Growing together. As a Software Engineer within Optum Technology, you will join an innovative team dedicated to building high-quality, scalable applications that transform healthcare delivery. In this role, you will design and develop full-stack Python and JavaScript (Node.js/React) applications while deploying cloud-native services across AWS, GCP, and Kubernetes. You will write thorough technical tests across the end-to-end software development lifecycle and embed approved AI tools into your daily engineering workflows to optimize coding and delivery. Collaborating with cross-functional engineering teams, you will solve complex technical challenges, manage high-volume data using BigQuery, and deliver innovative features that advance enterprise platform capabilities. You will enjoy the flexibility to telecommute* from anywhere within the U.S. as you take on some tough challenges.

Primary Responsibilities:

Design, develop, test, and deploy scalable software applications and microservices using Python, JavaScript, and Node.js/React
Write thorough technical tests across end-to-end development workflows to ensure high software quality, reliability, and code coverage
Design, develop, and deploy AI-powered solutions to address complex business challenges with an emphasis on responsible use of AI
Use enterprise-approved AI tools to streamline workflows, automate engineering tasks, and drive continuous improvement
Evaluate emerging technology trends to inform solution design and strategic innovation
Build and manage cloud-native infrastructure, containers, and data solutions using AWS, GCP, BigQuery, and Kubernetes
Write clean, maintainable, efficient, and well-documented code following enterprise software engineering standards
Collaborate with cross-functional software engineering teams, system architects, and business partners to deliver continuous solution enhancements

You'll be rewarded and recognized for your performance in an environment that will challenge you and give you clear directions on what it takes to succeed in your role as well as provide development for other roles you may be interested in.

Required Qualifications:

2+ years of professional software engineering experience developing and deploying software applications
2+ years of hands-on development experience using Python
1+ years of experience writing through technical tests across end-to-end software development lifecycles
1+ years of experience with JavaScript and frameworks such as Node.js or React
1+ years of experience working with cloud platforms (e.g., AWS or GCP) and cloud data tools (e.g., BigQuery)
1+ years of experience with containerization and orchestration platforms (e.g., Kubernetes, Docker)
6+ months of experience using enterprise-approved AI tools to automate coding or engineering workflows

Preferred Qualifications:

Bachelor's degree OR 4+ years of equivalent software engineering experience
Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field
Experience with automated testing frameworks and continuous integration/continuous delivery (CI/CD) pipelines
Experience building and scaling full-stack applications utilizing Python, JavaScript, Node.js, and React
Hands-on experience managing multi-cloud architectures (AWS and GCP) and high-throughput data pipelines using BigQuery
Experience managing and scaling production workloads using Kubernetes
Experience leveraging approved AI coding assistants and automation tools to augment development efficiency and code quality

At UnitedHealth Group, our mission is to help people live healthier lives and make the health system work better for everyone. We believe everyone-of every race, gender, sexuality, age, location, and income-deserves the opportunity to live their healthiest life. We are committed to mitigating our impact on the environment and enabling and delivering equitable care that addresses health disparities and improves health outcomes - an enterprise priority reflected in our mission.
