Description United's Digital Technology team is comprised of many talented individuals all working together with cutting-edge technology to build the best airline in the history of aviation. Our team designs, develops and maintains massively scaling technology solutions brought to life with innovative architectures, data analytics, and digital solutions.

Job overview and responsibilities The Developer plays an important role in creating and maintaining the strategic partnership between business needs and technology delivery. The Developer plans, designs, develops, tests, deploys, and supports scalable, secure, and reliable software solutions supporting core organizational capabilities. This individual applies strong engineering, analytical, and problem-solving skills and leverages modern development practices, automation, and AI-assisted engineering tools to improve software quality, developer productivity, and speed of delivery. The Developer is experienced and self-sufficient in performing responsibilities with limited supervision and general guidance.

  • Assist in the design, development, enhancement, and maintenance of software applications and services.
  • Collaborate with product, architecture, engineering, QA, security, and business teams to understand requirements and deliver effective solutions.
  • Build and maintain APIs, backend services, integrations, and event-driven components as appropriate.
  • Work on one or more moderate-to-complex initiatives and contribute throughout the full software development lifecycle.
  • Apply secure coding, data protection, and engineering best practices throughout the development lifecycle.
  • Use AI-assisted development tools, such as GitHub Copilot or comparable technologies, to support coding, testing, debugging, documentation, code analysis, and developer productivity while following enterprise security and responsible AI standards.
  • Evaluate AI-generated code and recommendations for correctness, security, performance, maintainability, and compliance rather than relying on generated output without engineering validation.
  • Develop comprehensive unit and automated tests and support application deployment and release activities.
  • Participate in peer code reviews and AI-assisted code review processes to ensure solutions meet engineering, security, and quality standards.
  • Support and troubleshoot production software systems, including performance analysis, root-cause investigation, observability, and resolution of defects.
  • Contribute to technical documentation, architecture/design documentation, and operational support materials.
  • Identify opportunities to automate repetitive development, testing, operational, and troubleshooting activities.
  • Stay current on emerging software engineering, cloud, AI, automation, and application development technologies.
