Original job description
We are UMG, the Universal Music Group. We are the world’s leading music company. In everything we do, we are committed to artistry, innovation and entrepreneurship. We own and operate a broad array of businesses engaged in recorded music, music publishing, merchandising, and audiovisual content in more than 60 countries. We identify and develop recording artists and songwriters, and we produce, distribute and promote the most critically acclaimed and commercially successful music to delight and entertain fans around the world.
Key Responsibilities
- Product Development
- Work with product and engineering colleagues to understand user needs and build useful improvements.
- Take responsibility for features, fixes, and prototypes.
- AI Use & Automation
- Use AI to explore ideas, write and understand code, create tests, investigate problems, and document your work.
- Find repetitive tasks that could be automated and build small tools or workflows to improve them.
- Quality & Validation
- Check your work through testing, review, and feedback. Ask for help when you cannot explain or validate a result.
Qualifications & Experience Evidence that you build You have made something that works and can explain the problem it solves, what you contributed, and what you would improve. This could be a project from coursework, an internship, a hackathon, open-source work, or something you built independently. It does not need to be a commercial product. Practical use of AI You have used AI to build something or automate a task, not just answer questions. You can explain how you used it, what worked, where it went wrong, and how you checked the result. We value curiosity and experimentation alongside the judgment to recognize when you need help. Programming foundations
- Working knowledge of at least one programming language, ideally Python, JavaScript, or TypeScript.
- Ability to explain your code, investigate errors, and write basic tests, using AI where useful.
- Familiarity with Git for tracking and sharing code changes.
- Willingness to learn how user interfaces, APIs, and data fit together in a working application.
Ownership and collaboration You take initiative, respond to feedback, and ask questions when something is unclear. You can communicate clearly in English with engineering and product colleagues. Ownership at this level means following through and making problems visible, not solving everything alone.
Helpful, but Not Required
- Experience with Django, React, or Vue.js.
- Experience connecting an application to an API or database.
- Exposure to GitHub Actions, cloud deployment, or AI-powered applications and automation.
