Original job description

ABOUT THE ROLE

Lead the compute, data, AI, and security infrastructure behind a biotechnology sequencing operation. You will work across software and lab systems to build reliable platforms that support sequencing workflows and scientific analysis.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

  • Own services that orchestrate lab devices, including robots, sequencers, and on-premises Linux servers, along with the data ingestion pipeline.
  • Build cloud infrastructure and data pipelines to store, process, and deliver large volumes of sequencing data.
  • Design systems for orchestrating large numbers of bioinformatics tasks, including queues, workflow orchestration, and scheduling.
  • Develop AI infrastructure and internal tools for operational monitoring, logistics coordination, and adaptive bioinformatics analysis.
  • Lead cross-functional projects from problem definition through production, and mentor engineers while contributing as an individual contributor.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

  • At least 5 years of experience in platform, backend, or infrastructure engineering, including meaningful experience at a startup during a period of growth.
  • Strong AWS orchestration experience, including ECS, Batch, and Step Functions, plus Python backend development with FastAPI or Django.
  • Experience designing and shipping reliable distributed systems, such as task queues, workflow orchestration, and state machines.
  • Hands-on experience with Linux server administration and distributed task queues such as Celery or SQS.
  • Experience leading cross-functional projects, mentoring engineers, and connecting architecture choices to business impact.
  • Familiarity with current AI tooling and experience building LLM or agent systems, including tools, evaluation, permissions, and workflow design.
  • A degree in computer science, engineering, mathematics, physics, or equivalent technical experience, along with curiosity about science and biotechnology.
  • Comfort working primarily as an individual contributor and operating in an ambiguous, fast-moving environment.
