Law and Motion Associate

ABOUT THE ROLE

Join a law and motion and appellate team supporting defense-side litigation across a range of practice areas. You will provide focused legal research and written advocacy that informs litigation strategy and helps attorneys prepare cases for trial and appeal.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Draft pretrial motions and oppositions, including pleading-related, discovery, and dispositive motions.
• Prepare trial materials such as motions in limine, trial briefs, pocket briefs, jury instructions, and verdict forms.
• Research complex legal issues and provide strategic recommendations to litigation attorneys and clients.
• Draft post-trial motions, including motions for new trial and attorney's fees.
• Support appellate matters and, where appropriate, participate in appellate arguments.
• Assess litigation and appellate strategies across matters.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• Juris Doctor degree and active membership in good standing with the California State Bar.
• Two to ten years of civil litigation defense experience, with a strong focus on legal writing.
• Experience at a civil litigation defense firm and as part of a legal team.
• Experience drafting motions, oppositions, or appellate briefs, and knowledge of California civil procedure and substantive law.
• Excellent legal research, writing, analytical, and complex issue-spotting skills. A writing sample is required.
• Familiarity with legal research tools such as Westlaw or LexisNexis.
• Ability to meet an annual billable-hour target of 1,920 hours.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base salary: $130,000 to $185,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.

LOCATION

Hybrid role based in Los Angeles, California, with work locations also available in Costa Mesa or San Francisco.
