Engineering Manager

ABOUT THE ROLE

Lead the health, delivery, and growth of an engineering pod building software for the mortgage and financial technology sector. This is a hands-on management role, with time reserved for coding and close collaboration with Product and technical leaders.

WHAT YOU'LL DO

• Manage and support a pod of approximately 6 to 8 engineers through regular 1:1s, feedback, performance management, hiring, and career development.
• Own planning, retrospectives, delivery health, and early communication of execution risks.
• Contribute code regularly, targeting approximately 10 to 20 percent of your time and 1 to 2 pull requests per week.
• Partner with Product Managers and technical leads on priorities, architecture decisions, and cross-functional alignment.
• Improve engineer onboarding, documentation, and clarity of ownership.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR

• At least 8 years of software engineering or engineering management experience, with a progressive path from individual contributor work into management.
• Demonstrated middle-management experience leading a team of at least 5 engineers, including hiring and performance management.
• Recent experience shipping production software and coding in an engineering management role, including hands-on TypeScript experience and substantial backend engineering experience.
• Familiarity with TypeScript, React, Node.js, Express, GraphQL, PostgreSQL, AWS, and modern infrastructure and observability tools.
• Experience using AI tools in engineering workflows and familiarity with AI product development practices such as evaluations, experiment design, and dataset curation.
• Startup or small-company experience and a background in financial technology or lending software are helpful.
• Must have work authorization that does not require visa sponsorship.

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

Base salary: $225,000 to $300,000 annually. Visa sponsorship is not available.
