Original job description

Title:

Semiconductor Device Engineer

At KBR, we deliver science, technology and engineering solutions to governments and companies around the world. KBR employs approximately 37,000 people worldwide with customers in more than 85 countries and operations in over 28 countries. KBR is proud to work with its customers across the globe to provide technology, value-added services, and long-term operations and maintenance services to ensure consistent delivery with predictable results.

Trinzic is the future independent company to be created through the planned spin-off of KBR's Mission Technology Solutions business, expected in January 2027. Our people work at the frontier of what is possible, delivering solutions in challenging environments and advancing some of the world's highest-priority national security and space missions.

Backed by decades of mission success, deep expertise, and trusted partnerships, Trinzic will launch as a global organization with more than 18,000 employees supporting customers around the world. Join us at a defining moment and help shape the future of a company built to tackle complex challenges and make a meaningful impact.

Candidates who join KBR's Mission Technology Solutions business before the spin-off will transition to Trinzic when the separation is complete and will not need to reapply for employment.

We are seeking a highly motivated and hands-on Semiconductor Device Engineer to join our team researching Gallium Nitride and Ga2O3-based device development. This role is designed for an engineer with a strong foundation in semiconductor physics and a desire to work directly in a cleanroom environment. In this role, you will bridge the gap between virtual modeling and physical realization by fabricating test structures in our state-of-the-art cleanroom, conducting DC/RF electrical testing, performing TCAD simulations, and inspecting devices using advanced microscopy. You will work closely with colleagues to accelerate technology development and optimize device performance.

Key Responsibilities:• Cleanroom Fabrication & Process Support: Spend active time in the cleanroom environment assisting with process steps, managing test runs, and operating fabrication equipment (e.g., photolithography, wet/dry etching, thin-film deposition).• Electrical Characterization (DC & RF): Set up and execute parametric electrical testing. Perform DC measurements (I-V, C-V) and RF/high-frequency measurements (S-parameters) using manual or semi-automated probe stations, parameter analyzers, and network analyzers.• Microscopy & Metrology: Conduct physical characterization and failure analysis on fabricated devices using advanced microscopy tools, including Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM), Atomic Force Microscopy (AFM), and optical microscopes.• Device Simulation (TCAD): Utilize TCAD simulation tools (e.g., Sentaurus, Silvaco) to model basic device physics, predict electrical behaviors, and guide physical experiments.• Data Analysis & Reporting: Compile, analyze, and present experimental data. Compare electrical measurements against TCAD simulation results to identify discrepancies and suggest device improvements.• Documentation & Safety compliance: Maintain rigorous documentation of cleanroom runs, testing protocols, and safety procedures.

Work Environment:

Location: Onsite
Travel Requirements: Minimal 0-20%
Working Hours: Standard

Required Qualifications:

Education: PhD degree in Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, Physics, Nanoengineering, or a closely related engineering field; or MS degree in the same discipline with 3+ years of microelectronics experience beyond graduate school.

Experience: 4+ years of hands-on cleanroom experience (can include graduate research or internships)

Fabrication Skills: Familiarity with standard cleanroom protocols, safety standards, and basic microfabrication processing techniques.

Testing & Metrology: • Experience with semiconductor parametric testing equipment (e.g., source measure units, lock-in amplifiers). • Hands-on experience to DC/RF electrical characterization concepts. • Direct experience operating optical microscopes; exposure to SEM or AFM is highly desirable.

Simulation & Software: Exposure to TCAD simulation software (e.g., Sentaurus, Silvaco, or COMSOL).

Communication & Teamwork: Strong written and verbal communication skills, with a strong publication record

Security Clearance: Must possess the ability to obtain and maintain a U.S. Government clearance.

Ready to Make a Difference?

If you’re excited about making a significant impact in the field of space defense and working on projects that matter, we encourage you to apply and join our team at KBR. Let's shape the future together.
