Original job description

Who we are:

Tria Federal delivers digital services and technology solutions that support the health and safety of veterans, service members and civilians. For two decades, federal agencies have relied on Tria companies to advance their critical missions and modernize their systems, so that they can uphold their commitment to the American people. Today, we are pushing the boundaries of possibility through partnerships and investments in artificial intelligence and emerging technologies, developing solutions for the biggest challenges that government will face tomorrow.

We are proud to employ and support military veterans who bring mission-first mindset, technical expertise, and leadership qualities that strengthen our work. Veterans, transitioning service members, and military spouses are strongly encouraged to apply.

Job Description:

Tria Federal (Tria) is seeking driven and ambitious individuals to join our 2027 Summer Internship Program. This full-time opportunity offers a hands-on, impactful work experience tailored to align with your academic and career aspirations. As an intern at Tria, you’ll gain valuable exposure by collaborating with colleagues and engaging with senior executives, all while participating in professional development activities and networking opportunities that enrich your experience.

The Growth Operations Intern supports Tria’s Business Development and Growth function by using technology to advance how the team identifies, qualifies, and captures federal business. The intern owns one or more substantive projects, scoped with the mentor at the start of the internship, that apply AI tools, automation, data integration, or analytics to a real operational need within growth operations. Representative projects include building a working application or tool for the BD team, automating a manual BD or capture workflow, improving pipeline analytics and reporting, or connecting data sources that currently operate in isolation.

Projects are built using vibe coding, in which the intern describes desired behavior in plain English to an AI coding assistant (Claude, Cursor, or similar) and iterates on the output. No prior development experience is required. The internship is self-directed and build-first: the intern sets the pace, manages research, troubleshoots build challenges, and produces weekly deliverables without day-to-day direction, while drawing on the full breadth of the organization’s resources when the work demands it. Progress is reviewed weekly by the mentor and at formal checkpoints by the mentor alongside a BD colleague with experience in comparable builds.

The role applies Tria’s AI- and technology-enabled operating model to the Growth function, converting manual, reactive processes into proactive, data-driven ones that the team can maintain and scale after the intern departs. The ideal candidate is curious about AI tools, writes clearly, works independently, and is interested in how federal business development operates.

Responsibilities:

Technology Projects for Growth Operations

  • Scope, design, and build one or more projects that apply technology to a real need within Tria’s BD and capture operations, such as an application or tool for the Growth team, an automated workflow, a reporting or analytics capability, or a data integration.
  • Build using vibe coding, describing desired behavior in plain English to an AI coding assistant and iterating on the output until it produces the intended result.
  • Validate data accuracy and structure before building logic on top of it.
  • Troubleshoot build challenges independently before engaging technical staff or other support resources.

Data Integration and Pipeline Analytics

  • Work with real pipeline data from Salesforce (Growth Opportunity records) and maintain spreadsheet backups where appropriate.
  • Research and integrate market research and federal data sources (e.g., SAM.gov, USASpending, agency forecasts, GovWin, G2X) and document a data source map for each input a project depends on.
  • Support pipeline reporting and analysis that helps the Growth team prioritize pursuits and track progress.

Growth Operations Technology Enablement

  • Apply AI tools (Claude, Cursor, and similar) across Growth workflows, identifying where manual BD and capture tasks can be automated or accelerated.
  • Develop prompt precision as a core skill: the ability to describe a problem with enough clarity and specificity that the AI produces the intended result.
  • Stress-test what is built under realistic conditions and document the findings.

Domain Learning and Research

  • Learn Govcon fundamentals, the federal acquisition lifecycle, Tria’s BD approach, and customer communication in direct service of the current project, using provided resources, reference materials, and organizational subject-matter experts.
  • Maintain a vocabulary log of Govcon and BD terms, defined in the intern’s own words.
  • Research market, competitor, and customer information in support of active pursuits as projects require.

Documentation and Knowledge Transfer

  • Maintain a documented snapshot of project state at the end of each week (what is live, what is functional, what has been validated), updated without prompting.
  • Draft operational SOPs written for a user who did not build the tool.
  • Assemble a complete handoff package for each project, including the application or tool, SOP, data source map, and supporting artifacts.
  • Deliver a final presentation to leadership with a live demo and a recommendation for the next step toward a production-grade capability.

Internal Collaboration

  • Attend a weekly check-in with the mentor, structured around the week’s deliverable and project state.
  • Participate in formal reviews with the mentor and the BD colleague at designated checkpoints.
  • Engage BD professionals, technical staff, senior leaders, and other Tria staff as the work requires.
  • Facilitate team usability testing of what is built and resolve the friction points surfaced.

Qualifications:

  • Currently enrolled in, or a recent graduate of, an undergraduate or graduate program in business, public policy, information systems, data analytics, or a related field.
  • No prior coding or development experience required; demonstrated curiosity about AI tools and a willingness to learn by building.
  • Ability to describe problems clearly and precisely in writing; strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, set priorities, and manage a multi-week project to completion.
  • Interest in federal government contracting and business development.
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Excel and PowerPoint; exposure to Salesforce or another CRM, SAM.gov, or USA Spending is a plus.
  • Must be a U.S. citizen.
