Our technology helps transit agencies, transportation providers, and mobility organizations improve operational efficiency, enhance rider experiences, and deliver reliable transportation services. Our portfolio includes Ecolane, FASTER, Passio, TripShot, ByteCurve, and Vestige. Through our TransitTechOS initiative, we are bringing these technologies together into a more connected, scalable, and intelligent transportation ecosystem. We are a growing, technology-driven organization where talented individuals have the opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the future of mobility. About the Role Transit Technologies is seeking an experienced, hands-on Director of Engineering to lead software engineering and delivery across our demand-response product portfolio, including OnDemand, ParaTransit, Non-Emergency Medical Transportation (NEMT), and BrokerLink. This is a highly technical leadership opportunity for someone who enjoys building great engineering teams while remaining actively involved in software architecture, code reviews, technical problem-solving, and product delivery. The ideal candidate combines strong software engineering expertise with proven people leadership, a passion for building scalable SaaS applications, and the ability to deliver reliable, high-quality software in a fast-paced environment. Reporting to the SVP of Engineering, this leader will oversee approximately 10–15 technical leads, software engineers, and QA professionals across distributed teams. The Director will play a critical role in modernizing our products and advancing our TransitTechOS platform convergence strategy. This is not a purely administrative leadership position. We are looking for a technical leader who remains close to the code and can actively contribute to engineering decisions and problem-solving. What You'll Do Engineering Leadership & Team Development
- Lead, mentor, and develop a distributed team of approximately 10–15 software engineers, technical leads, and QA professionals.
- Own hiring, onboarding, performance management, coaching, and professional development.
- Establish clear team responsibilities, accountability, engineering standards, and performance expectations.
- Foster a collaborative, results-oriented engineering culture emphasizing ownership, innovation, continuous improvement, and technical excellence.
- Effectively manage onshore, offshore, and vendor engineering resources.
Hands-On Technical Leadership
- Remain actively engaged in software development through code reviews, architecture discussions, technical design, and hands-on troubleshooting.
- Provide technical direction on application architecture, APIs, integrations, data models, and distributed systems.
- Partner with architecture leadership to ensure solutions align with TransitTechOS platform standards and long-term scalability objectives.
- Establish and maintain best practices for software development, code quality, testing, documentation, and maintainability.
- Help engineering teams solve complex technical challenges and make sound architectural decisions.
Software Delivery & Execution
- Own end-to-end software delivery across OnDemand, ParaTransit, NEMT, and BrokerLink product lines.
- Lead Agile development practices, sprint planning, release management, and program increment (PI) planning.
- Drive predictable delivery timelines, engineering productivity, and accountability for commitments.
- Balance new feature development with technical debt reduction, system modernization, and platform integration.
- Identify and resolve technical dependencies, development bottlenecks, and delivery risks.
- Collaborate with Product Management to translate business requirements into executable engineering plans.
Quality, Performance & Reliability
- Establish and strengthen software quality assurance and automated testing practices.
- Own production reliability, incident management, root-cause analysis, and continuous improvement.
- Improve application performance, scalability, availability, and operational stability.
- Implement engineering practices that reduce production defects and increase release confidence.
- Ensure engineering teams deliver secure, reliable software supporting mission-critical transportation operations.
Product & Cross-Functional Collaboration
- Provide engineering leadership across demand-response transportation solutions, including trip booking, scheduling, dispatch, routing, eligibility, and broker integrations.
- Partner closely with Product Management, architecture teams, and peer engineering leaders to support product innovation and platform convergence.
- Collaborate with stakeholders to prioritize engineering investments and align technical execution with business objectives.
- Support customer escalations, technical discussions, and strategic initiatives requiring engineering expertise.
- Contribute to the continued evolution of TransitTechOS as a unified transportation technology platform.
What We're Looking For Required Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience.
- 10+ years of professional software engineering experience.
- 4+ years of engineering leadership experience managing software development teams.
- Demonstrated ability to remain technically hands-on, including reviewing code, evaluating software designs, and troubleshooting complex engineering challenges.
- Proven experience delivering and supporting scalable SaaS applications in production environments.
- Strong understanding of software architecture, distributed systems, REST APIs, integrations, data modeling, and cloud-based technologies.
- Experience leading Agile/Scrum development teams through the full software development lifecycle.
- Demonstrated success in hiring, mentoring, developing, and managing engineering talent.
- Experience managing distributed engineering teams, including offshore development resources.
- Strong understanding of CI/CD, automated testing, software quality, and production reliability.
- Excellent communication, problem-solving, prioritization, and cross-functional leadership skills.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience developing software solutions for public transportation, mobility, logistics, or transportation technology.
- Familiarity with OnDemand transportation, ParaTransit, NEMT, or transportation brokerage platforms.
- Experience with real-time routing, scheduling, optimization, or dispatch systems.
- Knowledge of NEMT eligibility, billing, claims processing, or broker integrations.
- Experience integrating multiple software products into a unified technology platform.
- Familiarity with ADA compliance requirements or software development in regulated environments.
- Experience supporting enterprise customers and mission-critical SaaS applications.
