Position Summary

The Senior Cloud & Infrastructure Engineer is a senior technical contributor responsible for the design, operation, optimization, security, and resiliency of the company's Microsoft Azure and hybrid infrastructure environment.

The role provides hands-on engineering support across Azure, identity, Windows infrastructure, virtualization, backup/recovery, disaster recovery, monitoring, and infrastructure services supporting business applications. It also partners closely with DevOps, Information Security, Application Development, Application Support, PPMO, and managed-service providers.

Key Responsibilities

Cloud Infrastructure & Azure

  • Design, implement, administer, and support Microsoft Azure infrastructure and cloud services.
  • Manage Azure subscriptions, resource groups, networking, compute, storage, identity integration, monitoring, and related platform services.
  • Monitor Azure service health and proactively coordinate responses to platform incidents and degradation. This reflects current operational work such as identifying an Azure Container Registry image-pull degradation and determining its impact on non-production environments.
  • Establish and maintain cloud engineering standards for availability, performance, scalability, security, and supportability.
  • Support cloud services used by application and DevOps teams, including Azure-hosted and AKS-based workloads.

Cloud Cost Management & Optimization

  • Continuously review Azure consumption, run rates, forecasts, budgets, and resource utilization.
  • Identify cost anomalies and optimization opportunities and work with technical owners to remediate them.
  • Ensure new infrastructure builds are reviewed for both technical requirements and cost efficiency.
  • Develop proactive monitoring and reporting for cloud spend.

Windows, Identity & Hybrid Infrastructure

  • Engineer and support enterprise Windows Server and hybrid infrastructure services.
  • Administer Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD-related infrastructure capabilities and integrations.
  • Support On-Premises Active Directory, DNS, authentication, certificates, service accounts, and related enterprise services.
  • Troubleshoot complex infrastructure problems spanning cloud and on-premises environments.
  • Provide senior-level escalation support to internal IT teams and managed service providers.
  • Identify Azure AD and advanced Windows knowledge as important components of the current position.

Virtualization & Infrastructure Modernization

  • Support the modernization and reduction of legacy on-premises infrastructure.
  • Evaluate and implement virtualization technologies and migration strategies.
  • Participate in the organization's transition away from legacy VMware dependencies where appropriate.
  • Support Nutanix or comparable virtualization/hyperconverged platforms based on the approved infrastructure architecture.

Backup, Recovery & Disaster Recovery

  • Administer and support enterprise backup and recovery platforms, including Rubrik.
  • Assist with backup policies, monitor backup health, investigate failures, and support data-restoration requests.
  • Strong knowledge of e-Discovery
  • Serve as a technical contributor for Disaster Recovery planning, testing, documentation, and remediation.
  • Participate in production DR exercises and maintain infrastructure recovery procedures.
  • Develop sufficient knowledge and documentation to eliminate single-person dependencies for critical recovery functions.

Monitoring, Reliability & Operational Excellence

  • Implement and maintain proactive infrastructure and application-platform monitoring.
  • Support Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, alerting, capacity management, and infrastructure observability.
  • Investigate service degradation, performance issues, unusual consumption patterns, and platform incidents.
  • Drive root-cause analysis and preventative remediation.
  • Improve availability, reliability, performance, and cost efficiency through automation and standardization.

Security, Compliance & IT Controls

  • Partner with Information Security to maintain secure infrastructure configurations and remediate vulnerabilities.
  • Support internal and external audits and provide infrastructure evidence as required.
  • Ensure identified security and audit findings are remediated within agreed timelines.
  • Follow privileged-access, change-management, configuration-management, and infrastructure-security standards.
  • Maintain accurate infrastructure and operational documentation.

Project & Business Support

  • Provide infrastructure engineering support for PPMO-led business and technology initiatives.
  • Develop technical requirements, estimates, implementation plans, and infrastructure designs.
  • Deliver assigned project work on schedule and within approved budget.
  • Coordinate infrastructure dependencies with Application Development, DevOps, Application Support, Security, vendors, and MSP resources.
  • Participate in architecture and technical design reviews.

Required Qualifications

  • 10+ years of progressive infrastructure, systems, or cloud engineering experience.
  • 7+ years of hands-on Microsoft Azure engineering or administration experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of Windows Server and enterprise Microsoft infrastructure.
  • Strong experience with Microsoft Entra ID/Azure AD and hybrid identity.
  • Experience supporting enterprise backup and recovery solutions, ideally Rubrik.
  • Experience with VMware, Nutanix, Hyper-V, Azure virtualization, or comparable platforms.
  • Practical experience with Azure Monitor, Log Analytics, or similar observability platforms.
  • Working knowledge of DNS, networking, firewalls, load balancing, certificates, storage, and authentication.
  • Experience supporting disaster recovery and business-continuity exercises.
  • Experience with ITSM practices and platforms such as ServiceNow or Jira.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills across multi-tier cloud and hybrid environments.
  • Strong technical documentation and communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with Azure Kubernetes Service (AKS), Azure Container Registry, and cloud-native application infrastructure.
  • Infrastructure-as-Code experience using Terraform, Bicep, ARM templates, or comparable tooling.
  • PowerShell scripting and infrastructure automation experience.
  • Experience with cloud financial management/FinOps practices.
  • Linux administration experience.
  • Experience supporting enterprise audit, ITGC, and cybersecurity requirements.
  • Familiarity with GitHub-based infrastructure or DevOps workflows.

Preferred Certifications

One or more of:

  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Administrator Associate
  • Microsoft Certified: Azure Solutions Architect Expert
  • Microsoft Certified: DevOps Engineer Expert
  • HashiCorp Certified: Terraform Associate
  • Nutanix, Rubrik, VMware, or relevant Microsoft security certification
