Position Summary

We are seeking a dependable, hardworking, and detail-oriented Bilingual Janitorial Porter to support custodial operations at a university campus. The Porter will help maintain a clean, sanitary, safe, and welcoming environment for students, faculty, staff, and visitors.

The ideal candidate must be able to communicate effectively in both English and Spanish, follow instructions, respond to service requests, and work professionally in a fast-paced campus environment.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

• Remove and arrange office and classroom furniture, equipment, and appliances, and move heavy equipment and machinery when assigned.
• Assist in assembly and disassembly of furniture, furnishings, etc.
• Clean graffiti from the interior and exterior surfaces of buildings. Provide special cleaning before, during, and after special events. Perform other related duties as assigned by the University’s Contract Administrator.
• Perform warehouse duties, including palletizing materials, loading and unloading trucks, and labeling items and property.
• Assist maintenance personnel with special projects.
• Perform conference-style set-ups for university functions. Arrangement of tables, chairs, podiums, and other items used in group gatherings.
• Porters shall power wash the plaza area, garage, walkways, and loading- -dock area on a needed basis and assigned by the CA.

• Maintain the cleanliness and appearance of campus buildings, including academic buildings, administrative offices, hallways, lobbies, restrooms, and common areas.

• Collect and dispose of trash and recycling in accordance with campus procedures.

• Respond promptly to cleaning requests, spills, and other custodial needs to maintain a safe environment.

• Assist with classroom and event setup, including moving furniture, arranging tables and chairs, and preparing spaces for campus activities as assigned.

• Identify and report maintenance concerns, safety hazards, damaged equipment, and supply shortages to the supervisor.

• Communicate professionally with students, faculty, university staff, visitors, and coworkers in both English and Spanish.

• Follow established cleaning procedures, workplace safety requirements, and university policies.

• Maintain cleaning equipment and supplies in a clean, organized, and secure manner.

• Perform additional custodial and facility support duties as assigned by the supervisor.

Qualifications and Requirements

• Fluency in both English and Spanish is required.

• Previous experience in janitorial, custodial, porter, or commercial cleaning services is preferred.

• Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.

• Strong communication, teamwork, and customer service skills.

• Ability to work independently, manage assigned responsibilities, and maintain attention to detail.

• Dependable, punctual, professional, and committed to maintaining high cleanliness standards.

• Ability to perform physical tasks, including standing, walking, bending, pushing cleaning equipment, and lifting supplies, with or without reasonable accommodation.

• Willingness to work in an active university environment and interact respectfully with a diverse campus community.

• Ability to comply with applicable campus access, security, and safety requirements.

Work Environment

This position operates in a university campus environment and may require working in classrooms, offices, restrooms, hallways, public spaces, and event areas. The Porter must be comfortable working around students, faculty, staff, and visitors while maintaining a clean, safe, and professional environment.
