Original job description

Archived listing. The details below describe a past opening.

Thornton Tomasetti applies engineering and scientific principles to solve the world’s challenges. An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career.

Our Structural Engineering practice collaborates with architects, building owners, and builders to design elegant solutions for projects of all types, sizes, and levels of complexity. From designing the world’s tallest buildings and most extended spans to engineering inventive “jewel-box” structures and designing major expansion projects, we continually seek the best balance among the demands of form, function, sustainability, constructability, schedule, and budget.

Your Role

As a Project Engineer in our Structural Practice, you’ll take on a key technical and coordination role, owning complex design challenges, guiding junior engineers, and shaping the delivery of innovative structural solutions. You’ll work across disciplines, contribute to project management, and begin stepping into more client-facing opportunities. If you’re ready to elevate your impact and grow into future project leadership, this is the place to do it.

What You’ll Do

Lead and refine structural analysis, design, and detailing tasks, adapting technical skills and solving project challenges with strong engineering judgment.
Drive the quality of deliverables by organizing information clearly, reviewing junior staff’s work, and tailoring outputs to project scope and contractor needs.
Coordinate proactively with architects and engineers, taking increased responsibility for day-to-day technical decisions.
Support and mentor junior team members through effective delegation and feedback, fostering a collaborative and high-performing team culture.
Grow your leadership skills by assisting with project management activities, contributing to proposals, and engaging in client-facing opportunities.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Architectural Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure preferred.
4+ years of structural engineering experience with proficiency in tools like SAP2000, ETABS, RAM, StructurePoint Software, and Revit, and experience designing steel, concrete, and timber systems.
Solve complex problems with confidence, balancing priorities, and adapting designs effectively.
Strong communication and emerging leadership, with a commitment to mentoring junior staff and building your professional presence.
