Original job description

Archived listing. The details below describe a past opening.

Thornton Tomasetti applies engineering and scientific principles to solve the world’s challenges. An independent organization of creative thinkers and innovative doers collaborating from offices worldwide, our mission is to bring our clients' ideas to life and, in the process, lay the groundwork for a better, more resilient future. We provide support and opportunities to our employees to achieve their full potential and cultivate a rewarding career.

Our Construction Engineering practice works with fabricators, erectors, construction managers, and general contractors to provide connection design, temporary stability analysis, design of structures delegated to the contractor, design of industrial structures, and construction means-and-methods engineering. There will be an emphasis on the development of relationships with current, but also new clients to grow the practices revenue potential. The core areas of focus for growth are providing structural and construction engineering services with a focus on contractor needs for the construction industry.

Your Role As an Associate in our Construction Engineering Practice, you will lead complex construction engineering projects, guide teams, and deepen client relationships. You’ll combine advanced expertise in temporary works and steel connection design with growing ownership of project outcomes and business development, helping shape the direction of the practice. You will serve as a technical leader and trusted client advisor while driving project strategy, team development, and practice growth. This is your opportunity to make a bigger impact and accelerate your path toward firm leadership.

What You’ll Do

Lead project delivery from concept through execution, including construction strategy, temporary works, and connection design.
Provide clear, confident guidance on advanced construction challenges.
Lead multidisciplinary coordination efforts with clients, contractors, fabricators, and design teams.
You will contribute to the design of temporary works, steel connections, and construction systems that bring complex structures to life. You’ll work on real-world engineering challenges where sequencing, constructability, and field constraints matter as much as analysis.
Guide teams through complex constructability, erection engineering, and temporary works challenges across multiple concurrent projects.
Mentor and grow a high-performing team.
Expand client relationships and position Thornton Tomasetti for new opportunities.
Influence firm strategy by connecting clients to our full-service capabilities.

What You’ll Bring

Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Structural, or Construction Engineering; Master’s degree preferred.
Professional Engineer (PE) and/or Structural Engineer (SE) licensure.
8+ years of experience with strong technical depth in construction engineering and steel connection design.
Proven ability to lead project delivery and manage client expectations.
Strong leadership qualities, technical judgment, and the ability to develop client relationships and support business growth.
